Set in an alternate world in which... Aunt May has a new boyfriend after the death of Ben and his brother and sister and law. Peter doesn't like Obie one bit, and the feeling is mutual. They both have their reasons, only Obie's run a little deeper than anyone would expect.
“Hi, Mr. Obie, sir,” he says, his voice steadier this time.
Obie nods, the sharpness in his expression easing just a little. May doesn’t scold him again when Peter steps back behind her leg, her hand resting lightly on his shoulder.
Eugene from school once told him that after his mom and dad divorced, his dad got a new girlfriend who sucked. But she didn’t stick around—Eugene said she was a “rebound.” Peter still doesn’t really know what that word means, but he hopes it means May’s new boyfriend won’t stick around either.
Because if Peter learns anything that day, it’s that he’s pretty sure he doesn’t like Obie.
