“Gil—” J.J. says, but Shane doesn’t want him to finish that sentence, to pull Comeau gently off the ledge he’s steering himself toward. Shane wants to push him, kicking and screaming, to make them say it to his fucking face. That after all this time, they still hate him for the heinous crime of falling in love.
“We’ve been married for two years,” Shane says. “I’m not sure that qualifies as playing house. I mean, it’s longer than you were with your first wife, isn’t it?”
Or: Shane reunites with his former teammates at J.J.'s bachelor party. He's finally ready to say (and maybe punch) his piece.

Summary
Shane has a problem with subspace. More specifically, being able to communicate during it. His propensity to go non-verbal when he's overstimulated or in an emotional situation is definitely not ideal. Ilya has been able to adapt, but Shane wants to work on his communication skills. That's why this little game of theirs really comes in handy.
Or, Shane and Ilya play a game of orgasm denial using a chastity device in an attempt to train away Shane's issue with communication.

"Shane can feel his coach’s gaze on him as he finishes removing his gear, can feel the anger radiating off him and everyone else in the room so strongly it makes tears prick at the corners of his eyes, and he knows he’s not strong enough to stop what’s about to happen.
He’s usually better at hiding this side of him, at gritting his teeth and pretending he’s not actually a real submissive like this club expects of him. But Shane is so tired of pretending, so tired of being forced to hide the aspects of himself these people don’t want to see, and he can’t muster up the strength to mask like he usually does.
He’s not the robot that people think he is. He’s someone who loves hockey more than almost anything and this is the only way he’s ever been allowed to have it. He’s someone who, even after everything, still is desperate to prove his worth to the only NHL team he has ever known.
He’s also a sub surrounded by people who hate him and whose thoughts are becoming more fractured by the second. There is no scenario where he comes out of this unscathed."
