Summary
Cub was alone in the Hot Cave.
His project, the thing he’d been plugging away at, gone back to the drawing board, scraped and redone so many times in the last two months, was chaos over his workstation. His eyes were itching. His shoulders ached from hunching for so long.
Keeping secrets.
That was all it was, right now. Useless secrets, and yet, for whatever reason, his mind continues to rebel against him, and he continued to insist with this irrational fear that if he came out and admitted what he was…he’d be thrown aside.
Discarded. Like so much trash from the streets, returned to what he’d been as a child, fearful of what he’d hear in the dark.

“How did you do it?”
The creeper mutant glanced up from the countertop where he was in the midst of calculating what sort of excitement he might be able to conjure together for dinner, considering the rather lackluster ingredients on offer. Pearl and Jimmy were out…Pearl had dragged Jimmy with her to stretch his wings, considering the youngest had been rather convinced that just staying in his hammock for two days straight was more acceptable. Tango was back at his apartment, working on something after having put in fourteen hours at the Labs that Doc had chided him over. Etho was in the Depths, dealing with the usual spread of issues down there.
That had left him and Grian home, just the two of them. And Grian, apparently, needed a bit of advice.

It was a lot easier, the way Louis described it. Then again, Louis was a pile of ash right now, so what did he know?
Even the thought made him feel like vomiting, but Owen wasn’t sure if he was capable of doing that anymore. His head felt light and fuzzy, and the sores and pains that once marred his skin were all gone. He felt faster, stronger…but he was also currently running for his life.
Maybe he’d reacted poorly. Seeing your only friend being burned at the stake will do that to you.
Regardless, slaughtering an entire town drew some eyes…the wrong kind of eyes. And that's why he was currently in the process of running for his life.

Really comfy, actually. Her brother was curled up under one of her arms, and her cousin was to her other side. He was still so little that he nearly entirely fit under one of her raven-black wings.
A bunch of the other kids were all scattered around, the adults were talking in hushed voices by the main entrance. The room was big and echoey, Pearl thought it was fun when she would shout across to other kids, ask them to come and play. Some of the adults came and played with them, sometimes, too, adults Pearl never really recalled the names of, or maybe it was because some of them didn't give their names? She wasn't sure.
She’d been sleeping.
And then there had been the scream.

Instead, on that final climb up the mountain, Martyn found his mind assaulted by so many conflicting things that the gates passing over his head, the voices calling in awe of a witch in the town…it all fell to the background.

Ronan lurched in Adam's lap, eyes closing as his head tipped back. "Fuck."
He watched Ronan's face pinken, nearly as pink as his mouth. Adam could only think of Ronan's clothes coming off, the rest of his body turning that same shade. A grin spread across his face.
"I really like it," he said.
or: After stopping the apocalypse, Ronan and Adam spend the night in Boston. Adam discovers that Ronan's hair grew while he slept. They make up for lost time.

They were all pretty tightly packed in the apartment, all of them having assembled close, and to be fair, Ren wasn’t the only one who’d moved out, at least. The Dogwarts clan was strange that way, with all of them living interconnected, and yet Ren had been entirely apart.
With their support. With their unending support.
But he was still back here, somehow...back here grieving. But what was that grief? It was like admitting something was already gone.

Joel was standing stubbornly in the doorway of their apartment, chiseled into the walls of the near-surface. It was a big change from the clan houses Lizzie had grown up in, crowded by cozy with dozens of other cat hybrids.
Her family wasn’t as huge as the Dogwarts clan, but it was still big. Hunting clans tended to be that way. Lizzie had siblings. Six of them, to be precise.
They were fighting right now. Against creatures without souls, without mercy, without pain or fear or a lack of numbers. Because that was the problem, right now. Lack of numbers. So it was all hands on deck.
The under-city was sealed off from sunlight, right now. It wasn’t as though that actually reached that many of them, down here, but that gave more issues than you might expect. Joel's face was twisted with concern, his eyes shone with distress, but none of it made it to his voice, which was as uncooperative as ever.
Lizzie loved him for it. She also hated it right now. It grated on her already short nerves...because what other choice did she have?

Rei doesn’t go far. He stays in the warmth of Kazuki’s bed, their arms listlessly draping over each other; both men craving human touch and reluctant to relinquish it.
If there’s one good change that has come from the last year and a half of their lives—and, well, Kazuki knows there’s more than one, but this is one of his favourites—it’s that Rei never bothered to rebuild the deliberately built walls that existed before.
Miri’s bulldozer demolished those permanently, thank god.
In their time of need, Kazuki and Rei find comfort in each other.

Rei’s grip loosens.

Rei comes down with a bad flu and Kazuki takes care of him. But fevered delirium and a highly paranoid assassin are a volatile combination. For the first time, Kazuki realizes just how dangerous the man he shares his life with can be.
