Her whole body had been oriented toward it, toward the fire and the fight and Fiyero's hand and the sky opening up ahead of her like a door.
And then Glinda had looked at her.
And she had come down.
Or: what if the Wizard and Glinda did convince Elphaba to stay. And what if Elphaba starts to see exactly what Glinda has been surviving, deliberately, so that Elphaba could come home safe.

She’s not expecting the Queen of Oz to start courting her younger sister, or to have to spend so much time with Nessa’s prickly older sister, Princess Elphaba. At first, Galinda is happy to pretend that she's exactly the kind of brainless socialite that Elphaba thinks she is. But as first impressions fizzle out and she realizes the two of them are more alike than she could ever have suspected, Elphaba threatens to send Galinda’s carefully constructed facade spiraling and forces her to consider another path: one where they put their own happiness first, whatever the consequences.

And like absolute clockwork, here it is to spoil her date night. The first date night they’ve managed to avoid rescheduling on all month. Galinda will not stand for it. She is absolutely not taking a raincheck again. This is her life, Ozdamnit, and she is going to have a normal school day and a normal date night and it is going to be fine.
It absolutely is not fine. Her cramps set in halfway through the walk to breakfast, hitting her with such an intensity that she stumbles and has to stop to lean against the wall until the initial wave settles. Considering she had conveniently forgotten to mention the events of her morning to her girlfriend, it earns her a thorough fussing-over from Elphaba.
