What are you supposed to do when you've been fired from your sweet job in Hell for thwarting the schemes of Satan, you've got a swanky flat in Mayfair, and you're looking for an excuse to spend all your time in someone else's bookshop? Obviously, you turn to the dubious world of short-term vacation rentals.

The resulting Airbnb property has been variously described as "an instagram trap," "a vampire den but make it botanical," and "the weirdest bed and breakfast in the shared history of beds and breakfasting."

CROWLEY: I try not to make a habit of gratitude, but I must give our appreciation to everyone out there who’s been listening and subscribing to The Ineffable Plan.
AZIRAPHALE: Ooh, yes, we’ve become quite popular, haven’t we?
CROWLEY: Yeah, just hit number eight on the advice charts … No advertising at all.
    AZIRAPHALE: Mm. How … miraculous.
CROWLEY: … Aziraphale. You did not.

    ***

Crowley and Aziraphale are very possibly the people least qualified, on the entire planet, to start up an advice podcast.

But what else is there to do when the world isn’t ending anytime soon, you’re technically on indefinite sabbatical from your lifelong careers, and you need a plausible excuse to spend more time with your best friend who you’re definitely not, absolutely not, maybe just a little, actually maybe overwhelmingly in love with?

    Summary

"They'll leave us alone. For a bit."

One year after the Apocalypse-That-Wasn't, Crowley and Aziraphale have settled into a new routine: keeping an eye on supernatural happenings in the world and preventing Heaven or Hell from interfering too much with humanity. It's not a bad job - despite occasional rains of fish - and if there are some unspoken things they really ought to talk about, well, they have all the time in the world now to get around to that, right?

At least, until the Archangel Raphael turns up on their doorstep looking for help... and it starts to become clear that the world is changing fast, and so are they.

Or: Crowley and Aziraphale start a detective agency. Shenanigans ensue. Slowburn continues. Apparently, there is plot. I have some thoughts about Heaven, Hell, and humanism. There will be stupid jokes and a healthy sprinkling of angst.

    Summary

Crowley returns to England, and finds his secret conviction that the world was designed for his personal entertainment severely tested by the bloody boring fourteenth century. But what is he a demon for, if not to spice things up a bit? Start some rebellions, get exiled three times in four years, experiment with fashion, cheat at jousts, babysit a six-year-old Queen, that kind of thing.

It's irrelevant that a certain angel is taking his orders seriously for once and embarking on a life of self-denial and doing good. That isn't the reason Crowley is bored, at all. He certainly isn't acting up to get Aziraphale's attention because he's desperately in love with him or anything.

    Summary

They say the Supreme Archangel Aziraphale has changed beyond recognition. He's stern, authoritarian, and leads New Heaven with an iron fist. They say he keeps hellfire in a diamond jar on his desk, and threatens the angels who wouldn't obey him to unleash its destructive power.

Crowley doesn't want to care. He has spent 6000 years worrying for Aziraphale, and where has it got them? But when Shax tells him that New Heaven is looking for the Seal of Baraqiel to complete the Second Coming, the demon knows he can't hide anymore.

It was a truth universally acknowledged that an angel in possession of no memory must be in want of a wife.

No, that was the wrong book. The wrong line. Aziraphale frowned.

“What,” the gentleman before him asked, “and I mean what, are you doing here?”

    -----------------

Or, two years after things fall apart, Aziraphale shows up at Crowley's doorstep without his memories. The easy part is getting it back, the hard part is getting them back together.

“I read the books about you,” Muriel said matter-of-factly.

Crowley wasn’t following. “The books about me?”

“The letter books to Aziraphale’s friend Diary? You must know them. They must be an angel, but I don’t think I’ve ever met them before.”

Crowley coughed heavily. “You’ve read Aziraphale’s diary?”

    Summary

In which Crowley moves back into his flat, Aziraphale has problems at work, and the Second Coming of Christ is but a stone's throw away.

In the end, Crowley makes it to rolling green hills, leant against a stubbornly yellow Bentley.

    He remembers the first morning.

He had slithered out of the ground not long before dawn, the dirt damp even before the first rain, the grass cool and crisp against his scales. And the sun had risen, jewels spilling across the great blue sky, warm and golden from the East. Crowley – Crawly, then – had wanted to follow it, had felt a great pull Eastwards. He went, too, until he found the ripe red fruit nestled amongst the lush green leaves and knew what they were for.

It was luck, then, that the humans had left in the direction of the sunrise.

    Luck, or– ineffable.

The sun rises over the South Downs, and Crowley finally wants to stay.

While more people board and the driver loads their luggage, Aziraphale continues to check his little notebook. It’s all there. Dates, times, addresses. Everything nice and neatly worked out and timed and planned.

    What could possibly go wrong?

Once a year, Aziraphale goes on a trip to find more books for his shop. He makes a plan and everything.
But there is two things he hasn't taken into account this time. Traffic on the M25 and Crowley.
Crowley who is way too rude, wears sunglasses indoors and speaks perfect French.
