One of the sweetest stories out there, bittersweet, just the way I like it. I'm longing for a continuation, and until it comes, I keep re-reading. The side-plot with depressed Keeler is A+++

Summary
A small Sicilian train rattles its way across Europe, carrying a couple dozen passengers on a three-day-long ride.
One of the passengers is the beloved Vice Captain Abel of the Crowned Seal fleet. Recently recovered from a work-related accident, resulting in severe amnesia.
Another is a dark-haired man with a severe expression and a presence which whispered to all the other passengers of danger.
Coincidentally, both of them were traveling to a town deep in the Russian province.-

Summary For Recognition:
Hot Pirate Ethos, please step on me, meets Praxis after plundering their merchant ship without knowing that Praxis actually did his homework like a good boy and was stalking the pirate in a fit of wild obsession.
---
A very, very, incredibly important additon to my brain files. This work is a masterpiece among the SF fandom's many gorgeous works not just because it ticks all the boxes of 'characters in sircumstances I could never imagine', 'they're in love and they do not know it your honour' and 'incessant, gut-straightening longing' but it's also written very nicely. It's easy to read and to follow, and I really like that most of the time I can see it like in a movie. I need to know more about why Praxis is there at all, about Ethos' background, about the things they will see together and especially I ended up a little enamoured by Selene's character. I am the experimental monkey that clings to the cold steel only with the memory of its warmth from seconds ago.
---
Marcus grabbed the bucket of dirty water/and tossed the whole lot in the first combatant’s face, disorienting him and splashing all over.THE SOUND I MADE AT THE MENTAL IMAGE OF THIS, TOO GOOD, TOO GOOD. What a cinematic masterpiece. I can see the exact angle and speed/range of motion this was meant to present and I swear to goodness if I could animate this would already be on YT.
---
“You’re not a guard,” spat the pirate as they struggled to unbalance each other. “Why do you…ngh… give such a shit, anyway?”Marcus knew he’d fucked up when his eye flicked back in the direction he’d seen the captain.
The man directly in front of him snorted. “Oh, I get it. Heh.”
Honestly though, none of us should be surprised though. Imagine trying to not catch a peep at the handsome captain. Could never be me, not in this life. If I was on that ship I would be overboard with thirst.
---
His late night imaginings had built up the captain of the Tiberius to be a monster of a man. Marcus wasn’t exactly short, himself, but he’d imagined Captain Ethos dwarfing him. Standing tall enough that he’d have to look up at his face. Shoulders broad enough to block a double door frame. Strong arms capable of pinning him in place with ease...I can't hold a cup to the bucket this man is drooling though. I think he might need a little hydration.
---
“What ‘ave you got? What ‘ave you got?” asked the parrot as it flapped in place, looking clumsy while finding its balance.“SQUAWK! A knife! SQUAWK! NO!” the bird chattered and bobbed its head.
DYING DYING DYING DYING NGIKJIGJWIGIIOJJZIW
---
Captain Ethos shrugged, stepping closer. “The price of doing business; I’m sure the ones paying your fee have factored such things in.”“Am I supposed to tell that to their widows?”
“You can give them my sincere apologies, but they were the ones who chose to marry sailors.”
“Fuck you,” spat the injured captain in an uncharacteristic display of anger,
For all the jokes and fun we had so far, I am actually a sucker for this piece. It suddenly turns a lot more serious and sets the tone for a situation that is more dire than expected. Sure, not all of them are going to die, but Ethos is being serious about his statement. It is the risk of the trade. Suck up to your commissioners or suck up to the sharks.
---
“On your knees.”Yes, Sir.
---
Honestly... What is Praxis thinking? I don't understand why he is so set on RISKING his life so readily for the pursue of a Pirate? How are you planning to woo him, darling? How are you getting those points of trust?
Oh, wait, he was employed to do so. Fine, okay, one question answered.
---
If he catches sight of one of his posters, it won’t go well.Oh no, the consequences of my simping.
---
Captain Ethos looked from him to his sleeping companion and back again. With a conspiratorial smile, he slammed his hand on the top of the crate right beside the guard. The sleeping man’s eyes flew open.
“All hands on deck! Porthos! Get up, we’re under attack!”
The guard—Porthos, apparently—sat bolt upright and almost tumbled off the crate in his hurry to get to his feet.
The captain dropped the act and stopped his crew member's drowsy attempt to draw his blade with a hand on his arm. “At ease,” he saidFHUJHJAGHIAAGAGHJEGAJIGHEGJ
---
Is this a torture technique? Or is he being nice? Trying to keep my mind on something else? When being cross-examined is better than the medical aid you're getting, that's when you know you're about to end up with last stage leper one day.
---
But the captain surely wouldn’t want a one-eyed man. Or probably a man at all, his mind helpfully added.Hacking and coughing because thiS HURTS SO MUCH GOODNESS GRACIOUS WHY ARE THEY BOTH SO ---

Paris, 1658. An evening's party in admiral Giovanni Beringo's palais. While the bearded old man, his best friend Sir Elias Cook and a dozen of rich, male, mostly young guests are engrossed in conversations, a gentleman on horseback and his servant are approaching the gate in the darkness. The latter carries a torch and a viola da gamba while underneath the former's hood, long blond locks shimmer. Who can this strange, delayed guest be?

Summary For Recognition:
Gorgeous violinist, good husband, man, teacher and politeness incarnate Keeler visits a Soiree where he meets wild, definitely not super suspicious and enthralled by the aforementioned blonde, Encke.THE STYLE IS SO GOOD!!! It's like I pulled out the Phantom of the Opera and just sat down to read it. Ignoring me not knowing a lot of the words initially, it becomes such a captivating story as it builds up the different characters! I want to know what happens with the studying session. Almost 99% sure that Encke is hiding that he can read and write because he is already a spy in some way, shape or form.
I can't believe Keeler has a wife though, and kids! Where would this tragic situation send him? Poor sweetheart doesn't even get a smidge of the respect that he deserves at that stupid soiree, I hope all their silver spoons were oxydized in the soup and poisoned them.Encre - French for 'Ink'? I like the way that word sounds.
---
Viola da Gamba, is apparently, the predecessor of instruments such as the viola, violin and cellos with some specific differences that ultimately take it away from the violin family. Popular during the renaissance and the Baroque era (1600-1700s).
Perrson is an outdoor stairway leading up a building entrance.
Doffed means to remove an item of clothing.
Whoremonger - a person who has dealings with prostitutes, especially a sexually promiscuous man. It's actually so nice to find new words in a story. At some point I had noticed that it's becoming less and less of an occurence and it makes me feel... Like I'm using the same thing to the point of redundency.
---
"Ah, relax, figlio“, the captain interrupted impolitely and slapped the shorter man's back quite forcefully. "She'll manage just fine. That's what women are made for, after all.“My expression when I read that - shock and amused awe. Suddenly the period accurate sexism tag made sense.
---
"Well, we men of greek tastes can't do without some new distraction from time to time. That can't be helped, can it?“You are of greek origins, Sir, for you are a desciple of the Phallus school.
---
For a second I was incredibly anxious if I will ever figure out who is who but it's starting to crystalize:
Jules de Bouteville-Montmorency is Phobos;Cook is Cook.;
Giovanni Beringo is... OH MY GOD IT'S BERING OKAY OKAY OKAY, I forgot he even existed, ok.
Simon de la Quille is... Keeler? I don't actually know his real name if he even has one to begin with, but if he can be anything, he can be a Simon.
...
...
...
Oh my god Encre is Encke, I'm sorry that's a genious deduction. 10, 000 points out of 10.
---
"My latest acquisition. What do you think of him? I brought him along from the plantations of Surinam. Those slaves, I can tell you – no inhibitions. There's a neverending choice of them, and they're so deliciously uncivilized!“OH MY GOD JEDFHEGRGJKJ
"This savage is capable of-"
IJFIJEK GOODNESS ME IT JUST NEVER ENDS, it's like I'm being there in my period accurate dress trying to act like I am not eavesdropping from the sparkling wine table, and my face is slowly becoming pale as I realize these guys are serious.
---
The youths were laughing in assent, but de la Quille had to hide his little coughs behind a hand when hearing this utter nonsense. He is so thinking about how Cook had not felt the genuine touch of a woman at that point, I'm wheezing out of my chair.
---
--taking a nip of his wine and casting a shy glance towards the man that disconcerted him not little.Actually enjoying the wording here so much. A nip of his wine. What a delightful string of words.
---
Alexeevich and Demossov - Ayo Deimos and Cain spotted. We're dropping in on the Russians, boys.
---
Une jeune fillette - playing it instantly as I read the rest of this story. I love french music.
It actually lasted just long enough to finish, how perfect.---
The grate inside my brain gears when I sent a fragment of the work to my friend and they read it out as 'Deh-Lah-Quill'
