Summary
Obersoldat Fox Mulder’s childhood has not instilled him with a sense of faith in humanity, and what little he has left has been destroyed by his years in Occupied France. An unwilling conscript in the German army, he is finally jerked out of months of helpless apathy when he comes to the aid of Dana Scully, the half-French, half-American proprietress of a tiny village cafe. The two strike up an unlikely friendship, growing closer as the war drags on. Each chapter was written so they can be read as a standalone or read together to tell an entire story. This story was originally written in 2014 and completed in 2020.
This follows MSR beginning with "The End" in season five all the way until post season 11. It is canon compliant. The continuity in the storylines always bothered me, MSR deserved more than to become an x-file. This is a result of that nagging and a labor of love.
This story is part of a larger series (titled Rooted in Friendship) that begins pre-season 1 and covers every episode of the X-Files up to Season 11 and then beyond into its own universe.

So good. This story combines two of the absolute best shows into such a well intertwined way. Will and Hannibal are my favorite characters so seeing them so well adapted into the universe of The X- Files in was definitely a treat!

Deep down, Mulder knew that if they were entangled even more tightly, he’d eventually become more irritated than aroused by her voice. He’d hear it in reference to uneaten vegetables and unopened mail and unfolded laundry. That holy righteous rage of hers, that unquenchable fire that roared at him to be better and do better and live better, would illuminate not just his career but the entirety of his being. And he doubted he could live up to that scrutiny. After almost almost getting her killed any number of times, somehow Mulder knew that asking her to forgive more mundane betrayals would be the final straw. Abduction? Possession? Cannibalism? All in a day’s work. Leaving sunflower shells everywhere? That was a bridge too far. It was better, safer, sweeter, kinder to love each other the way they did. To keep some mystery alive, and with it her steadfast belief in him. Delaying consummation was delaying his inevitable disappointment of her.

Summary
An early December 2002 tale, originally supposed to be a drabble, totally spun out of control. A post-series 'what if' where Mulder was irrevocably altered, replicants were the new reality, and the clock was ticking down to 2012.
Ghosts assumes that William was born in May 2001, given up for adoption in April 2002 and that Mulder and Scully fled in May 2002.

What they have in common: Scully’s pregnancy at the end of season 11 resulted in the birth of a normal child, a daughter named Katie. Mulder is the father. Scully retired from the FBI to be a stay-at-home mom until Katie is no longer a preschooler. Mulder continues to work for the FBI with a new partner, 24-year-old Matthew Somers. Skinner recovered from his injuries in MSIV and is Deputy Director.
Most of the stories in this series are MOTW case files with an occasional mytharc-related episode.
