“I thought I’d heard you, darling,” Elliott spoke without turning, at first, his beautifully accented voice theatrical and clear as ever in the quiet kitchen. “Those stairs make it awfully difficult to do any sneaking around, don’t they?” He turned, a smile on his angular lips. “They groan the warmest of welcomes, whenever it’s you.”
Harp shuffled a few steps forward with a chuckle, his arms snaking around Elliott’s waist as he smirked. “Y’know, sweetheart, most people would just say ‘good morning’.”
“Oh, perish the thought, darling.” Elliott laughed, leaning up to press a kiss to Harp’s full lips. “I could never dream of greeting you with something so plain.” He smiled up at his husband, bringing a hand up to settle on Harp’s coarsely bearded cheek. “Though, I suppose if it pleases you, my love, I could downgrade to ‘hello, love of my life, my most cherished muse, my dear husband who may or may not need to trim his beard’.”

It's a story about love and friendship, the power and joy of music and how it inspires other people, losing those you love and gaining new ones, learning to trust someone special to you, and how to face one's past, no matter what has happened. It started out as a short story but I ended up wanting to tell a small novel after a few chapters when I realized that hey, this isn't a bad concept after all.

The taller man smiled coyly, and tilted G’s chin up to brush their lips together. “By any means necessary.”
