After the events of the conclave, he is torn between calm and discomfort, as he experiences a series of strange symptoms that he attributes to years of overwork. Tedesco decides to stay post-conclave to loudly complain about every decision Pope Innocent XIV makes. Aldo isn't exactly thrilled. Could this actually be a learning experience for Tedesco? Can Aldo and Tedesco exist in each other's presence without fighting, for once? Certainly, as long as Vincent has any say in it.

“You are right.”
In all honesty, Thomas thinks he would be unable to perform with his eyes on him. It would be a lie, a cheap performance made for the sake of money. Goffredo brings out the worst in him, he is a mental block turned to life.
“You are amazing. I'd like to get you under my hands again.”
Goffredo's fingers travel to his navel, pulling them close. It's almost a kiss. Thomas pushes him away and turns his back, beginning to walk out.

Thomas Lawrence wakes up on the 24th of August. He joins the other Cardinals in the Sistine Chapel. He is caught in an explosion. He listens to Tedesco rant and Benitez preach. The new Pope is decided. He stands in the hallway outside the balcony where Pope Innocent XIV gives his first speech to millions. He goes to bed.
And then he does it all over again.
And all over again–
And over–
And–Thomas is stuck in a time loop of the last day of the conclave.
