All these years running around the wilds on his own, and now finally his older half brother had found out about his existence and captured him in a matter of months.
He was dead.
Meanwhile, Dream actually doesn't hate his little brother's guts. He's actually pretty concerned when he meets the little one.

“Uh, Techno?” Phil asked behind him. His voice sounded higher than usual, a bit worried, and still amused. “Don’t remember things lookin’ like this last time I was here.”
Techno spun around to face the rest of his party. Ranboo was still a head higher than anyone else in the group, but he was significantly shorter than the players around them. Niki had her hair in pigtails and one of her front teeth was missing. Phil’s wings, tucked behind his back, were fuzzy. None of them had any of the weapons or armour they should, and they looked like they were about eight years old at max.
And Techno could see eye-to-eye with his friends, which really did seem to imply he was also a child.
“Absolutely not,” Techno said, turning and marching across the courtyard. He had to push his way between adults in armour. “I’m not dealin’ with this.”
Or: Techno takes the Syndicate to visit Sky Block and disaster strikes. At the height of the Potato War. He feels great about this.

Travelling wasn't ever fun. Techno hated it. But ever since he mooted his Downy feathers, they had to move between their summer and winter homes. It was so annoying, but Dad said it was safer if they moved around. It would mean less chances of running into a predator. Which had been what happened to one of his older brothers he's never met. And was why they never let him out of the flock nesting grounds yet.
But soon he would be flying and his first flight was going to be something to remember.

But that doesn't mean Techno is unhappy. In fact, he's very happy with his life!
So imagine how pissed off he is when he wakes up in the game's fantasy world stuck inside the body of an eight-year-old orphan.

“Three!” They rush out like a flood. Rain pelts them hard, and Phil flings out his wings immediately. His head gets soaked almost immediately, but techno only gets a few raindrops on his face as they go from awning to awning on the street. It’s coming down so hard that they can barely see a hand in front of their face.
That’s when tragedy strikes.
Or when he bumps into someone.
Someone important.
Someone dangerous.
And as he looks up… someone beautiful.
They fell underneath a darkened awning, and the street lamps hardly gave off enough light, but it didn’t matter. Phil could tell that this was someone beyond the word pretty. But the moment ends when Tommy starts crying. Like real wailing. Wailing like it would take a couple of hours for him to calm him down. Immediately, it’s like all his instincts are on fire. Air seizes in his trachea as he drops the lone plastic bag on the sidewalk, desperately trying to unclasp the carrier. He can’t even twitter in panic, and his vision darkens.
“—Hey, the kid is okay. Hey, hey, shit—”
“Ms. K said that’s a bad word…”
“And she’s totally right, so it’s just a secret between us.”

It is what makes him useful. And he’s only survived this long by being useful.
His handlers tell him that it is almost as if he was born to fight. The voices tell him that he was.
They tell him a lot of things, but that’s the one that has always made the most sense to him. Fighting has been a constant in his life, ever since he entered this world. It’s only natural that it’s his entire purpose. Techno thinks that makes sense.
Techno doesn’t remember much of before.
Now, he fights. That’s all he’s good for. If he’s not winning, he’s not useful. If he’s not useful, he’s not alive. It’s not the best, but it’s what he’s used to. It’s the mindset that’s allowed him to get this far, after all.
And then the Angel of Death shows up in the stands and ruins everything by caring.
