Summary
The office was practically silent, the sound of writing and shuffling paper occasionally filling the space. The floor was hard wood, probably spruce, but the desk and chair sat on a plush carpet that felt expensive to the touch.
Currently, he was huddled under the oak desk, back pressed against the panelling that shielded the bottom from view. The position was harsh on his tail and his ears had to press against his head to fit but this was the best he’d be getting.
Hunched up against the dark corner of the desk felt safer than being out in the open where the bastard in front of him wanted him to be, anyways.
After escape attempt number eight, the emperor refused to let him more than a few steps away at any point in time. He even regularly checked under the desk to make sure that he was still there, probably half expecting him to have tunnelled out in the minutes he was left ‘unattended’.
He couldn't. The wood was too thick and it would be far too loud.

The earliest memory Techno has is one of fear and pain, which doesn’t provide much distinction from his other memories. He was small, clutching a knife in one hand, the other hand aching with barely-healed fingers. He was growling like a bigger piglin, standing over a cooling corpse.
This was the first time he heard the voices.
You have done well, one said. Not in words, not yet, but he understood them all the same.
Child of war, another said.
But the vast majority of the voices said a single phrase, over and over again, with no space for Techno's own thoughts, only red.

Tommy was too busy playing with Henry to notice. Techno just stared at Phil, unblinking.

Wilbur pointed a dramatic finger. “You’re hiding something.”or Techno, wilbur and tommy are orphans, and they decide to travel to L'manberg, and are unfortunately welcomed by cold misery, and they try to survive in this desert wasteland.. and Phil tries very hard to let him adopt them.
or Techno had two occupations in life, making sure tommy didn't die, and making sure wilbur didn't kill tommy.
They decide to go north, to a town called L'manberg, hopefully they won't get adopted by an old man who likes to collect children.or Pretty much a self indulgent fic i wrote cuz i wanted exactly this, i doubt anyone will read it.

She wasn’t really sure what to think when Phil first brought their sons home.
They always spoke about having kids, it certainly wasn’t a new prospect by any means, but between his adventures and her studies they just… never found the time to start a family.
At least, until her husband brought in two orphaned naga’s from one of his adventures.Of course there were ethical questions about the matter, on whether taking them out of their natural environment so they could survive was scientifically sound or not but… she never said she wasn't a selfish woman.
She always had a bone deep fascination in snakes and, of course, that extended to naga. How couldn't it? They were magnificent works of nature.

Techno and his family just recently moved to a new house, as their dad (and Technos foster dad) move in they are tense as the recent passing of a mother has tainted their relationship, Phil became neglectful and reclusive as well as blaming Techno for his wife’s death as the accident wouldn’t have happened if techno didn’t take her out in his logic, Willis refusing to interact with his younger brother cause his complicated birth-contributed to his mothers body not being able the accident cause of it. Tommy and techno stick together as they meet neighbors and then find a mysterious door that will change their lives forever

Hunting for food wasn’t easy, no matter how old he got.
The only real benefit that came with age was an increase in size and whatever knowledge he learned from failed hunts. Though, now that he’s thinking about it, he ate far more consistently as a fry than he does now.
Being so small let him go relatively unnoticed on large mer but now that he was around as big as most juveniles despite being an adult, all that stealth was long gone.
The reminder makes the fins surrounding his mouth flick irritably, disturbing the image of his false face for a moment before he settled again. It was all about appearances now. He had to look like some poor, unassuming mer in the hopes that someone would swoop in on him hoping for an easy kill.

It hasn't stormed since he got here. In fact, a lot has happened since it last stormed.
The day it last did, time raced quicker than a blur. It felt like he was running out of time, it felt like time was running away from him. People his mother called ‘bad men’ with guns barged into his home—though they all promised him they were going to keep him safe—that was the last time he saw his parents in casual clothing, and not orange scrubs.
The months after that went too fast. He could barely remember why he's here in the first place, why he's now under Phil's care. The orphanage said he was ‘qualified enough’, but to Techno, he is more than that.
Phil doesn't own a bat. Phil didn't raise his voice. And Phil didn't give him bruises.
