This story follows Nexus as she goes through elements of the fallout universe, changing them as she interacts with people and factions. Growing from a small girl to a woman and the struggles in finding herself in a hostile world. Well, she knows one thing about herself already, she will never back down from a challenge.
The story is based in the Fallout universe with many of the characters and elements of the game. I tried my best to stay true to the characters... Sort of.
But I added another main character to the universe and she changes the world around her.
Sort of alternate history.
Tags will happen, some eventually, life takes a little while to go through.This became quite long, but now it's all tied up and neat with an ending!

This fic diverges from cannon and dialog isn't ripped straight from the game, this fic is fueled by my burning desire to romance (and fuck) Arthur Maxson and for him to have a redemption arc, because he has good heart... but you know, bigot. So Elder Maxson's character is tweeked ever so slightly for this fic, but I will try to stick as close as I can for cannon.
Also this is my first time writing not Nero-typical characters, I am also not Nero-typical, so I am writing from my experiences.

Summary
Two years ago, the Institute was destroyed by the Sole Survivor and the Minutemen. After that the Brotherhood of Steel grew jealous and didn't want them controlling the Commonwealth. Back then they would just complain about the Minutemen being the ones to destroy the Institute and not them, but lately they've grown more ruthless. They've started attacking Minutemen patrols and harassing settlements, and there are rumors that they're planning to destroy the Minutemen and seize control of the Commonwealth.
Among the chaos stands Deacon. Agent of the Railroad, best friend of the Sole Survivor... and formally the Lone Wanderer.
After his wife Sarah Lyons was presumably killed in the Outcast incident seven years ago, he escaped to the Commonwealth, changed his face and joined the Railroad in their fight against the Institute. Then he met the Sole Survivor and everything changed, he had a friend again. But now his old friend Arthur Maxson is threatening to terrorize the place he now considers home, and he realizes that the wasteland still needs the Lone Wanderer. He needs to finish what he started.
He needs to become the Lone Wanderer again.

The Mojave chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel had been out of contact for quite some time. If records were accurate, years even. Attempts to restablish communications via radio had not been successful.
Still, the Mojave was a very long distance from the Commonwealth. It would have made more sense to organize a team from another closer chapter. Maxson had denied that. Tracey couldn't really imagine any benefit to his decision. Walking there alone would take many weeks, not to mention the preparation that would be needed. She couldn't even take her power armor as there was "too great a risk of it having to be destroyed".
The whole assignment reeked of punishment to her. This was how he was punishing her for not executing Danse. Either that, or he couldn't stand to look at her because of his guilt towards what he had done.
The only real up side to the trip was that the Mojave chapter wouldn't know about Danse's exile-he was free to accompany her. It was a minor thing, but it was very nice to be able to spend time with her husband without worrying about it. And there was plenty of time. After all, the Mojave was almost on the other side of the wastes.

The idea behind signing up for the Vault program was to be prepared for the end of the world. Quite frankly, Nora expected to live out her life and die in that Vault of old age. Going to sleep and waking up to find her husband dead and her son missing was the exact opposite of everything she thought would happen after the bomb. Now Nora must return to the world she and the other Vault Dwellers abandoned in the hope of being reunited with her kidnapped son, and be thrust into the middle of post-War history as the War for the Commonwealth simmers and boils to an explosive finish.
Is the kidnapping the whole story, or is this just the beginning of something far more sinister?

There are some major canon-divergences as the story goes on. One companion outright dies. Everyone's more concerned about the fact that Nora has a missing child than in the game. I try and remain canon-friendly where I can, but I'm taking liberties with personalities where it doesn't conflict with the original lore. TRIGGER WARNING: Nora's mental health gets a bit questionable. Then again, wouldn't anyone's?Story is COMPLETE: You may notice some changes while I clean up typos though.
