1989. Hob waits for his Stranger, but he never come. Hob could give up, he could wait until 2089 and pretend that nothing happened, but instead, he writes to him, just in case his Stranger came the next day, or the day after.
2089. His Stranger is still missing. Hob writes again, because it's better than giving up. It starts a new tradition. Every century he writes to tell his Stranger of his love for humanity and for life. He writes about his fears, his hopes, and also, perhaps, if you read between the lines, of his love for him.
But after centuries, the question still needs to be ask. Where is his stranger, and how long can Hob cope without him? -

At once, king Morpheus set off on a quest to save her, bringing only his trusted first knight Sir Robert Gadling and manservant Mathew with him.
In this fairy tale, however, things are not as straight forward as they might seem. Before queen Calliope left the castle, the death of their son had driven a wedge between king and queen. Now, some believe that the king’s affections may lay elsewhere, namely with his first knight. If that is indeed the case then it is not entirely uncomplicated because Hob does not know the king’s secret – that he isn’t exactly human.

Dream has spent seventy years trapped - unspeaking, near unmoving. He will not capitulate. He will not give in.
But that doesn't change that he can't help but dream too of a day of when he is out, able to return to his realm and function... freedom (in a sense) from this glass prison - though... his function... that overwhelming responsibility...
It doesn't matter... he may never get out... no one is coming... no one will help... he's alone. Even if he dreams of another world where that isn't true. It's fleeting, but he is Dream of the Endless.
And it's all he desires.
**When Roderick decides on using a spell, as a last ditch effort, to get his son back, he doesn't realize the catastrophic outcome of trying to force an entity of fantasy and reality, one with his own hopes and dreams of freedom, to conform - to create a son reborn.
AKA Roderick accidentally turns Dream into a two year old... and everything falls down from there.

Although she hears it constantly, Death knows it's not truly her fault when mortals' time comes to pass. She may help ferry them, but she does not kill them - not truly. Morpheus, the God of Dreams, takes pity on the King and Queen of Ithaca. Odysseus’s return is many years away, yet his and Penelope’s minds find each other in sleep. It’s both a blessing and a curse, and sometimes all that keeps them going.
Queen Penelope stepped into the dream as easily as crossing a threshold, and with her came the sun, as if Helios's carriage rode atop her billowing black hair. The carnage vanished in her presence, the ground no longer a battlefield but a sloping grassy hill dotted with olive trees. Her bright blue eyes almost glowed, searching the hillside with clear intent.
The King of Ithaca stood, gazing at her as if she were a vision of Aphrodite herself. The blood streaking his face and staining his hands evaporated in the wake of her sunlight, the dead bundle in his arms vanishing with it.
Morpheus stared as well, unable to believe that she stood before them. It was no shaped dream becoming a nightmare, no conjuration of the King’s mind to protect himself. It was her, slipping into his dream as if it were a room in their home. Answering her husband’s desperate cries.
