There is a silence as she goes back to sorting through her things, looking for what, if anything, she might want to take with her. And it’s peaceful and a little melancholy and she knows, just a heartbeat before it happens, that Nebula is going to break it.

“What?”

No one’s going to forget that,” she says in the end. Putting the box of cookies down and studies him for a long moment before continuing. “I do appreciate the free food. And the fact you pretend I didn’t wake you up when I show up at three in the morning...”
“The fact I don’t complain about the fact the neighbours are starting to talk...?”
“Wait, what?” she frowns. Only catching up to the tone he said it in a second later. “Not funny, Warlock.”
“Oh, I know,” Adam tells her, just about managing to suppress a grin. Before remembering that it wasn’t just a thing to say to earn a tired smile. “But... Some of them actually might be. Apparently this is a little out of character for you.”
“What – stealing people’s food?” she sighs. Apparently deciding to let that be a problem for another day.
Not like gossip based on a complete misunderstanding of her actions was something it was in her power to... shoot until it stopped moving...? That being her usual approach to problems, anyway.

It's been a long time coming, and it didn't come easily, but Nebula has finally found herself free of Thanos. She has all the universe at her disposal, but because spite is a powerful force, she's decided to spend her newfound freedom making her former master's life a misery. Keeping the remaining Infinity Gems far out of his reach seems a logical place to start.
Given that she knows that Loki died without recovering the Tesseract, she resolves not to make her brother's same mistakes. But when Nebula arrives in Asgard with the intention of stealing the Tesseract away, she finds that she might not have been in possession of all the facts from the start.

Summary
Loki and Nebula have a fight, followed by a conversation about how to be the best monster you can be. Later on, Loki gets a stern reminder to be more careful, coupled with a brutal reminder that you can't always get what you want. Nebula, for her part, slowly finds herself remembering how to be sympathetic. It's not a good feeling, and she wishes she could stop.
For now, however, she takes comfort in the fact that they both find it easier not to look at one another.

Summary
Nebula has quick wits, a good memory, and a growing fascination with Thanos' newest child. So even if Loki never comes right out and tells her about his family, she puts some pieces together.
Nebula finds herself uncertain how to feel about that, whether to pity Loki or envy him. On the one hand, Nebula can't miss what she's never known. She was never expected by Thanos to take her family off the board herself to prove her loyalty, as Loki will one day have to. Yet she can still appreciate the kind of love it must take to search for someone at the very edges of space, and she can wonder what it might feel like to be loved like that herself.
Nebula tries to help her new brother adapt to the realities of his new life. She tries to help him make the necessary choices in whatever way she can. They're all in this together, after all, the three of them. For Thanos' sake, as well as their own, they have to hang together.
