Something is out of sorts. There is this... Imbalance. Every magical thing can feel it. Something is set loose in the United States and it must be righted.
Of course, it is Constantine's job to fix it. Even when everyone dislikes him, even when he is the incarnation of a bad omen, even when he is bleeding about, even when he makes things worse, even then. It is always his job to fix it. But the thing about magic, mate, is that it has a price. It always has a price and there is no one else to pay it, but him. The only thing you can ask, or rather, beg for, is that it leaves you with just enough to stand up and heal.
Magician! Curse thy self.
The good thing is sometimes a curse makes you stronger. And sometimes, or rather a lot of times for John, a curse is a child in need of help.or
In which: Constantine adopts a little monster, Bruce works on his parenting skills, Zatanna saves the world and Jason Todd gets promoted.

John is at a bar, when the Bat finds him.
He isn't hiding, per say, because you can't hide from someone if you don't know they're looking for you. And John had left the Watchtower fast enough to ensure Bruce didn't get a chance to speak with him, or give him one of those long, questioning stares. John is a lot of things, but he's no mind reader, so how is he supposed to know the Bat wants his attention?
He's on his second glass of booze — the nice kind, because he had more change in his pockets than usual and he's feeling indulgent — when the man slips into the seat next to him. Bruce is out of uniform now, dressed in a dark turtle neck sweater and a pair of worn jeans, and John doubts anyone here will recognize him.

“Sorry, darling, but I’m here on business. Can’t leave til it’s sorted.” Constantine dropped his hands in his jacket pockets as he turned around to watch the vigilante.
Nightwing grabbed his other escrima stick and holstered them both on his back. “It’s not your business.”
“They’re demons.” John said bluntly. “Unless you and your brood have become quite practiced at demon hunting without me knowing - which, let's face it, is rather unlikely - then it certainly is my business.”

Constantine felt a cold hand grip his heart when he heard the smooth, cultured tones of the caller. He knew that voice, had heard it in his worst nightmares, and once, in a very real, very nasty deal gone sideways.
