TW: Unintentional Dehumanization is kinda a big thing in this fic, it's wholesome, but still Dehumanization. Kyana also has trauma, but I swear I'm keeping that one mild in this fic. This fic will be wholesome if it kills me.

This was heavily inspired by a bunch of SBI Humans are Space Orcs Au's which kinda all blended together in my mind. I'll do my best to credit my major inspirations when I remember/find them. Check out "Human Error" by "Teeth_Eater" if you like SBI, its the other major inspiration I could think of.

“I’m just gonna call her Fluff.” Finbar decided.“So you won’t get attached?” VR-LA teased. “How about Avitori? It means victory, maybe she’ll bring us some good luck with a name like that and her strength.”
“Don’t name her so seriously..” Finbar groaned. “We are just going to drop her off in a shelter in Sigil, remember?”
“Yes, of course, Finbar.” VR-LA agreed right away, his center eyes narrowed to show how he was smiling. They are going to get so attached.
“That name sucks. All of your names for her suck!” Dani complained.
“It’s better than ‘Starry’.” VR-LA shot back.

Dani was not in the kitchen. Dani was not in her room. Dani was not in either of the two empty rooms across the hall. Dani was not in the engine room. Dani was always in the engine room. Why was Dani not in the engine room? Or at the helm where she was supposed to be? Why is the fact that VR-LA can’t find one fire genasi and her cat making him feel so intensely helpless? Maybe because it feels too similar. Waking up in the middle of the astral sea. Alone. Without the faintest idea where his friends could possibly be. Why aren’t they here? They’re supposed to be here.
Dani seemingly disappears. VR-LA panics.

Summary
Dani curled around the new ball of warmth at her stomach, letting her head fall beneath the blankets so she was fully enveloped. Even still, she was shivering hard enough to make her teeth chatter and joints ache. Blankets weren’t enough. Dani wanted to lay in a bonfire. She wanted hot coals to rub over her skin. She wondered if Finbar would let her take a nap in the oven. Probably not.
After the crew’s adventure in the Frostfell, Dani catches the opposite of a fever and is left feeling very cold

This is an AU for a game called "The Long Dark," but you will need no knowledge of the game to understand this AU. Everything will be explained to the degree of information the characters have eventually. The game takes place in an area of Canada which experienced a geomagnetic storm, making all complicated tech unfunctional outside of auroras and making the wild life more aggressive. The weather gets steadily worse as time goes on, not getting better. Basically, a winter apocalypse.
This is gonna become wholesome, bittersweet found family between a bunch of very traumatized people.

Kyana wander alone for a year. Starvation nearly taking her many times.Finbar spent only a few months alone before a duo found him and joined him. He never stopped to process what occurred before he was alone.
Dani spent only a few days alone after running away, finding somebody half dead and alone.
VR-LA only knew Dani for a few months, no memories of anything before she saved him. Odd memories come and go for him, helping him keep his people alive.
