Malheureusement, à ce stade tout ce qu'il sait c'est qu'il est un paquet de contradictions enrobées dans une énigme et fourrées de mystère, et que la magie est impliquée. Première étape : trouver où se poser et qui est ce Julian Alfred Pankratz de Lettenhove. Deuxième étape : trouver un magicien ou une magicienne pouvant répondre à ses questions. -

Julian Alfred Pankratz de Lettenhove wakes up in a third-rate inn room with a splitting headache, a sore throat, a new tattoo, a whole bunch of blank sheets of paper scattered around him, and a memory full of holes. Accompanied by an old horse on the verge of dropping dead and a list of information with as many holes as his memory, he has no choice but to set out in search of himself.
Unfortunately, at this point all he knows is that he is a bundle of contradictions wrapped in an enigma and stuffed with mystery, and that magic is involved. First step: find a place to stay and figure out who this Julian Alfred Pankratz de Lettenhove is. Second step: find a magician who can answer his questions. -

He’s reminded with a pang of another little girl on another hiking trip, a far less perilous trip than this on one of the trails outside of Austin, scampering up a boulder that screamed a broken collar bone or broken ankle to him, but she made it down unscathed, rolling her eyes at his worries. Like every memory of her, it’s tinged with the reminder of how, ultimately, all of the worrying he did wasn’t enough, still left her dead, blood staining her favorite t-shirt.
Ellie and Sam are waiting when they catch up, back to giggling over some inside joke. Joel shakes his head, shouldering his backpack and forging ahead.
