Son of Thorin, Bilbo Baggins was undeniably different from the other Hobbits, whether it was because he was the only one with curly black hair or because he had learned to use a sword with the help of the Elves. The thing was that Bilbo Baggins was not completely a Hobbit, he was half Hobbit and half Dwarf. His mother was left at the altar pregnant, by none other than Thorin Oakshield, after all the Dwarves have strict rules against marrying someone outside their race. And Bilbo Baggins lived without caring to meet his biological father, but everything changed with the arrival of Gandalf who offered him the opportunity to meet his father and also to find the other half of his soul. It's not like Bilbo could say no, after all.

Finally, Dwalin caught sight of the dwarf he had been looking for. Karsus was standing near his father, head down and looking a little downtrodden. Tired maybe, Dwalin thought. Suddenly, bright blue eyes met his. Eyes as blue and clear as the sea.
Dwalin gave Karsus a crooked grin, causing the younger dwarf to blush and look away quickly. Perhaps he had made the dwarf uncomfortable. Then no, Karsus glanced up again and gave Dwalin a warm smile.
~ This is the love story of an old overprotective guard and a stuttering young silver-smith.

The Battle was over, the orcs were defeated, and he had survived... yet Bilbo just felt numb. He was exhausted, more so perhaps than ever before, but after everything that had happened, after everything he had seen... he knew sleep would not come to him that night. Not that he could even think of trying until he knew the fates of his three wounded friends; Fili, Kili and Thorin.
My take on the events following the Battle of the Five Armies, except Thorin, Fili and Kili survive their wounds on the battlefield and are taken to the healing tents in the Dwarven camp.
