"Mobians and humans weren’t the bestest of friends, most of them hate each other, some get along, some are friends. But mostly the two sides avoid each other, at least that’s what the blue blur had seen, sonic had never understood the hatred the two sides had for each other.
However sonic had never been around to see the arguments, the resentment, the way mobians would try and push humans further away from their societies and how humans took over their forests in response.
Sonic had never been told the reasons to hate humans so he didn’t see the point in it, he would happily strike up a conversation with one if he came across it. To sonic humans were basically the same as mobians just without most of the culture similarities. Sonic found them fascinating, just like how sonic found everyone fascinating."

The nightmare always starts the same.
The Tornado idling on a field, red metal gleaming in the sun, an excited Tails flying circles around one of the wings.
Last minute adjustments, he shouts.
Take your time, Sonic shouts back.
He is balancing on top of a low ledge, not even looking up. He hasn't looked up once ever since arriving here, ever since noticing the plane and the bags and hearing the engine purr relentlessly. Out of the corner of his eyes he can see his little brother zipping back and forth, can hear his excited chatter, low and muffled as if reaching him through glass. He concentrates on his shoes and on the thin ledge he is pacing on.
Up and down. Up and down.
I'm done, Tails calls.
Great, Sonic calls back.

After the events of Sonic Frontiers Tails has left for his own adventure and Sonic is happy for his little brother. Everything is fine. Great even.
Now if his mind would just stop playing tricks on him...

Being homeless is normal for Sonic the Hedgehog. But being stared at with looks that scream "You were so good when you were in your prime. What a shame." is new to the former hero. Sonic the Hedgehog is now what many would consider to be a "bum". No house, no friends, no money, and no name for himself. At least not anymore.
So when an excited woman tells Sonic of an expedition she's holding to a mountain with unwalked on lands, how could he refuse? A chance to relive the days of when he was a rebellious teenager. Sounds perfect, what could go wrong? Many things actually.

Or, Sonic's no longer a hero and decides to go on an expedition on a mountain. He doesn't suspect, however, that he'd be stuck hiking up steep roads with an old friend.

That was the closest thing tails had to describe it to, the pain through the body, the clamping muscles and the way everything seemed to melt away that wasn’t white hot pain. Someone was screaming whether it was him or Sonic he didn’t know. Super Sonic never spoke or made noise really so it would be strange if he had been.
Tails looked up and his eyes connected with Sonic, his older brother's eyes had turned into red and white swirls that reeked of panic and desperation as they tried to separate, sonic opened his mouth to scream something at tails but nothing came out but silence.
