Peeta stands below a blackened oak tree, head tipped back.
He doesn’t turn as I call his name in relief.
“Peeta?” I stop just short of his still form.
A wind whips through the forest, brushing back the fog, and I see the blackness extends from the trunk of the tree, down along into the ground. The smell of burning is stronger here. I step closer in to Peeta with a shiver.
“Katniss. Look.” He says, voice soft.
He doesn’t so much as sway, still gazing up, transfixed. From my place just below his shoulder I follow the line of his jaw, the point of his chin and his line of sight.
A noose hangs from the lowest branch. -

The Hanging Tree.
What's so strange about the hanging tree? In every prefecture was a hanging tree. The oldest tree, one that withstood countless of natural disasters and stubbornly lived on. One old enough to witness the horror from the olden times.
As the eclipse occurs, the sun and moon, together as one chooses six people to continue the legacy of the hanging tree.
Be sacrificied? Escape the curse? Give up and kill yourself? It's all up to them.
Because once you're chosen. There's no way out than to break the curse.
Once you hear strange, eerie music in your ears, one that only you and the other cursed ones could hear.
You're next.

The Hanging Tree is a songfic, sort of, the song is taken from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKrCE1aYz7o it's a fan-sung song) and it's Charles and Erik in a similar Universe to that the Hunger Games is set in.
I wrote this for LucentPetrichor's birthday back in February.
