Summary
Lucy Gray carefully watches as Coriolanus slinks into the forest, raising his gun up to his shoulder, leaning forwards as he strides through the grass. She shifts her feet, angling herself towards the man. Lucy Gray tenses up her grasp on the plank, quietly slipping to the other side of the tree as Coriolanus saunters on past.
“Lucy Gray,” Coriolanus says, his voice easily carrying, echoing through the forest. The mockingjays chatter angrily, a whole storm kicking up from the trees. “Lucy Gray, where are you? We can talk about this,” he calls out, twisting his head to the side. “Lucy Gray? Come on, this isn’t—” Coriolanus cuts himself off. “Are you hiding from me?”
Lucy Gray slinks to the opposing side of him, silently ducking behind another tree.
“Lucy Gray!” Coriolanus demands now, his voice turning sharp, hard. “Lucy Gray! I’m not going to hurt you, I just want to talk to you.”
Lucy Gray hears the click of the safety being turned off.

Peeta stands below a blackened oak tree, head tipped back.
He doesn’t turn as I call his name in relief.
“Peeta?” I stop just short of his still form.
A wind whips through the forest, brushing back the fog, and I see the blackness extends from the trunk of the tree, down along into the ground. The smell of burning is stronger here. I step closer in to Peeta with a shiver.
“Katniss. Look.” He says, voice soft.
He doesn’t so much as sway, still gazing up, transfixed. From my place just below his shoulder I follow the line of his jaw, the point of his chin and his line of sight.

Born in the Seam of District 12, May Pewter grew up with her parents and distant relatives. She was taught songs in secret, in the sun lit forest and meadow outside the District 12. In an old cabin that held secrets from generations ago. Songs that kept a missing girl alive in ways that couldn't be destroyed.
At age 13, May's father was killed in the mines and though her mother often performed for the people of 12, her squeeze box rarely brought in enough money to feed the remaining Covey women. So May began taking out tesserae to help feed herself and her mother. Then May began to perform for the people of 12 and began singing the songs taught to her in that Meadow.
3 years later would have May Pewter standing on the day of the 66th Reaping of the Hunger Games, in a dress passed down from Covey woman to Covey woman and watched as her name was called as the female Tribute.
8 years later, May Pewter is living in the Victor Village of District 12. Her mother long killed by Snow and her status as co-Mentor not fully set in. On the day of the 74th Reaping, things begin to change in Panem. And if they want to survive it all, then May Pewter will need to keep her new Tributes alive.

“You found me.” She whispers against his chest.
“You knew I would.” He answers back with a promise. He wants her to know he always will, allowing themselves to succumb to the gravity that draws them together.
She leans back slightly, surveying his face. Lucy Gray frees a hand from him, to brush his split lip with her calloused fingertips. “Hoped you would. Didn’t know. The odds didn’t seem in our favour.”
