James McGonagall never asked to be a mutant and he certainly never wanted to be a leader, but as his good friend Remy LeBeau would tell him, that’s just what the cards have dealt him. He is known as Gatekeeper due to the fact that his mutant ability was creating portals. He could create portals to other places on earth or to a pocket dimension. He grew up on the streets, never really remembering what happened to his parents. He’s traveled across much of North America during his youth and he has seen all manner of discrimination against mutantkind. He doesn’t really know what he believes in anymore and he definitely doesn’t know if he agrees with Charles Xavier’s plan for humans and mutant peace and harmony, that doesn’t mean he agrees with Erik Lehnsherr’s plan to wipe out humanity. But we re getting ahead of ourselves and should start the story at the very beginning.

An almost forgotten prophesy foretells the return of an ancient evil that will bring about the destruction of all. The only way to stop this evil is if the one who is descendent of the legendary Pheonix King and Star Queen unites the lands to stand up and fight. The Star Queen was the ruler of an ancient civilization of the stars that was said to have created all the power ups from mushrooms to even the super star and that they could unlock the true power of these items. The Pheonix King was a very powerful being who was said to be strong enough to topple gods. Together they ruled through many centuries of peace side by side. Until one day a great evil came and nearly destroyed the worlds. The Star Queen and the Pheonix King eventually managed to seal away this evil but at great cost. Most of their children and people were lost. Using the last bits of their power they scattered what remained to be hidden and sealed the power of their last surviving grandchild away so they can know peace and be hidden from the followers of the evil who seek to exploit or destroy them in order to release the evil once again.

Luigi isn't used to winning. So when he gets a mysterious letter claiming that he's won an enormous mansion, he naturally gets excited... but there's just one little catch. There's ghosts all over the place, and the house is haunted!
To make matters worse, Luigi's older brother, Mario, was last seen going into the mansion and never coming out. Luigi hates ghosts - he's deathly afraid of them, in fact - but he soon discovers it's more complicated than that. According to a kind old scientist living nearby, the mansion doesn't even exist at all!
It turns out that this inventor, Professor E. Gadd, has been studying the ghosts for some time - and passes on a useful weapon to help Luigi in his quest. The Poltergust 3000 is no ordinary vacuum: it's a wearable tool capable of capturing specters!
Luigi isn't exactly known for his bravery, but he sets out into the dark house to discover the truth. Can he overcome his obstacles - including himself - and find Mario before it's too late?
