“Why couldn’t we be?” Elizabeth asks immediately. And then, stepping back to find his eyes, unflinchingly gazing at the one that flashes yellow as firelight dances across it. “Why shouldn’t we be?”
Adam sits up slowly, wrought asunder by her words, the bold audacity of them. “I entreated my creator to make another like me and he refused to give life to a second monster,” he says brokenly. “It never occurred to me that there was any other option.”
“I will be your monster,” Elizabeth answers without pause. “I will walk by your side as Eve in the ruins of whatever world is left to us.”
