Waking up has never been this difficult in his life, Chris thinks distantly as he forces his eyes open, flinching against the bright lights. There’s a distant sound of a voice, and he can barely make out the words at first, even though it all gets clearer with every passing syllable. “Oh, Chris, you’re awake!” There’s a hand on his shoulder, gently stopping him as he struggles to sit up, and he doesn’t really have the energy to fight it so he complies.
When he groans there’s immediately a worried face in front of him, and he squints a little as he attempts to recognize them. “Claire?” It comes out a guess, more than anything. The person in front of him is Claire, he’s sure of it, but she’s… so old.

Summary
Borsalino, a scholar, washed up on the shores of an island in the middle of nowhere. He befriends Sakazuki, the caretaker of the shrines. He questions their beliefs, gets labeled as a heretic, and gets shunned by everyone except Sakazuki.
“They all just stopped visiting unless someone was sick or if they had horrible crops. It’s as if they’re only here to ask for blessings. You’re the first person who came here with no prayers or offerings. I don’t know if that makes you good or not.” Sakazuki scoffed.
Borsalino laughed, “Lighten up, will you? I don’t share their views so have pity on me. Besides, I do bring offerings. It just so happens that you’re drinking it with me.”
Sakazuki crossed his arms, amusement glinting in his dark eyes. “So they’re not offerings.”
“It would be a waste to leave good food and alcohol, wouldn’t it? And you’re the caretaker of this place, right? I say it’s better to give these to you so the place would continue being taken care of. That would be much better, wouldn’t you agree?” Borsalino said, bumping his elbow against Sakazuki.
“Think what you will.” Sakazuki huffed though there was a smile on his lips.

It had been the start of what would be only a brief friendship, but those few short years had been brilliantly, terribly important, and the rest of his memory tended to unfold from there like lesser tributaries, so that if he were to follow any thought back to its origin, eventually he came back around to Lewis. The first most important event, of course, was when Nico killed him.
Or, Nico Rosberg volunteers for the 49th Annual Hunger Games. So does Lewis Hamilton. It does not end well, but the rest of it is something special.

It leaves him frustrated as he had in mind to court the alpha but fortunately there's Daniel who tells him what might be the actual reason for Lewis's grumpiness. It changes Max's plans of wooing Lewis completely.

Max needed a few seconds to realize the sentence and what it meant and suddenly it was like his throat was constricting, cutting off the air supply. If he had been drinking something right now he would've definitely spit it out right away.
"Rut?" he asked an cleared his throat when he heard his own wheezy voice.
"Yes. You know, the time where alphas want to fuck everything that's not on a tree on three? They get a knot and-"
"I know what a rut is!" Max interrupted him, hating the feeling of his cheeks heating up, "How do you want to know that's the reason. And why would his rut make him act like this?"
