Wherein Gavin owns a hostel in downtown Detroit, Connor is his sweet but competent receptionist, and one fateful encounter with Connor in the club right below his hostel floor gives Gavin a rude awakening.
He never knew how many layers a person could have until now, and he is determined to peel back every single one until he finally understands the complex person that is Connor.
Alternatively: Wherein Gavin discovers that Nighttime Connor is a completely different person from Daytime Connor, Connor is just doing his best, and Nines is most definitely NOT Connor but is too amused - and invested - to correct Gavin.
The misunderstanding becomes, quite literally, life-changing.

Summary
After the revolution, Connor and Gavin met once at a club. They cleared the air between them, and then impulsively had sex in the club bathroom. It meant nothing. They would never work together and probably never see each other again, nor would they acknowledge a desire to see each other again.
It was that way for months after. Working opposite shifts and never trying to recreate that one night that stayed in their minds. Then human-android couples were found dead. Connor and Gavin fit the profile for an undercover operation.
Being coworkers with benefits did not seem like a bad idea. After all, it was just for the case. It would not mean anything. Might as well have fun while undercover. Right?

Summary
Gavin isn't pleased when two new Androids are assigned to the DPD, and of course, he'd be stuck with one of them as a partner.
It doesn't take long, however, for Gavin to realize that the thing is a great partner and actually cares about his safety (unlike a lot of other people).
Nines ends up breaking his programming to make sure Gavin is safe and becomes absolutely obsessed with him. -

Unfortunate events force Connor to work closely with Gavin which doesn't make building his own identity as an android working with humans easier. All that while tensions between humans and androids remain high.
This is a continuation to Leaks and Malfunctions, and part of the cop drama like series of cases. It's a separate story and knowledge of the earlier one is not required, but I recommend starting with case one for Connor's journey continuity!
