Summary
After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.
Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.
Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)
Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.
Her father may have made a slight tactical error.

Summary
Sokka is safe, and right where he should have been this whole time. Guilt prods him ceaselessly. His careless, foolish choices chase him. Nestled securely in the welcoming embrace of his sister tribe, he berates himself for missing the ease and comfort he enjoyed as a spurious captive aboard Fire Prince Zuko's ship. His heart is broken by Zuko's betrayal, and he swallows it down, over and over.
Katara and Aang include him in their routine as if he'd never been absent, but Sokka can't find peace. He catches his sister staring at him with anger, confusion, and her own distress. He's not sure he can repair what he's torn.
Prince Zuko thought he knew loneliness and the ache of separation, but that was before he made it horribly worse. His most recent reach for restoration shattered his foundation, and he’s left still banished, still scarred, and still with no clear direction. But now- he’s penniless, loverless, and hunted.
His uncle expresses that he worries Zuko’s recklessness will get them killed, but most days, the Prince can’t muster the means to bother with recklessness. Hungry, and tired, and furious with himself, he trudges forward. Iroh searches for peace, and Zuko searches for an alternate path.

Summary
"Sokka" Zuko spoke, garnering the tribesman's attention.
"Fire Lord Zuko," Sokka said, lowering his gaze to avoid Zuko's eyes, "you look well," Zuko felt so small.
Sokka spoke mechanically, rehearsed, like the conversation was strained and the six words were something he might choke on.
It dawned on him.
Zuko was alone, not even Hakoda was here to defend him from the carnivorous harpies, it was just him. His hands shook, lips trembled, but he did his best to show face. His smile disappeared, his warmth dying like the last coals on a hearth, and Zuko felt cold.
He hated the cold.

At least the kid had some survival instincts.

Summary
At the bow of the ship, he spotted half a dozen large men standing beneath the silver light of the full moon.
Unlike the remnants of his dreams, he could see them clearly now. They were very much not human and their size was not a distortion of his sleep-addled mind snatching at broken bits of information and warping it.
Zuko hated to admit he was terrified as he stared these creatures down with their inhuman eyes fixed sharply on him.

Zuko is sent on a mission by Firelord Azulon to resolve the reason why Fire Navy ships are being sunk and their crews mysteriously end up drifting on life boats to shore with no memory of what happened. To get to the bottom of this, he will be forced into a fate laid before him by La itself that'll take him to the bottom of the ocean. Little did he know that his heart has fallen under the siren song of a fierce underwater warrior who swept him away from the surface to show the Fire Prince his otherworldly home and endangered culture.

“Dude, you haven’t been following any of that stuff about the Blue Spirit? It’s so cool!” Sokka joined Mai on the floor, sitting in the butterfly pose and leaning forward to touch the floor as far as he could reach.
“Um, no. Not really.” Zuko sighed, pulling his leg up into a quadricep stretch.
“Awe, not a fan of the new vigilante, Zuko?” Mai deadpanned, blowing a strand of hair from her face.
“I don’t know, why should I care about some random guy trying to get himself killed? It’s not like one person can do enough to make a difference.”
“You know what I always love about you, Zuko?” Sokka stood, bouncing on the balls of his feet and grinning as he stretched his arms. “You always look on the bright side.”
“Practically a ray of sunshine.” Mai chimed in.
“Whatever. Hard to be disappointed if you don’t look forward to anything.”

Summary
Sokka spotted flames out of the corner of his eye and was about to panic until he looked over to the stage and processed what was happening. There was a man on the stage, and in the darkness surrounding it, it almost looked like he was spinning fire around using his arms. The closer Sokka got, the more awed he became. Up close, he could see that he wasn’t spinning fire around per se, but rather a rope that had something burning at the end of it, which was somehow even more impressive to Sokka. He watched entranced as the rope snaked around his back, as he threw it forward and swung it from side to side, as it spun in front of him, encircling him in fire.
or, Sokka goes to a con with Suki and Yue, and sees the most mesmerising fire performance, and he absolutely has to talk to the guy.
Meanwhile, Zuko is freaking out because his online best friend saw him perform at a con and has no idea how it would affect their relationship if he told Sokka the truth.

Azulon demands Zuko's head as punishment for Ozai's attempt at seizing power after Lu Ten's untimely death, suspecting foul play in her nephew's death, Ursa strikes first in a desperate attempt to save her children, slowly unleashing a taste for cruelty and desire for power. Her choice altering the coarse of events significantly and growing as she becomes more accepting of her new path while Ozai's absence to create room for Zuko and Azula to grow closer with each other and their mother.
