The cell door seems to click. Sirius stands, his weak muscles sticking and grating below his weight as he staggers to it and peers through the crack.
If the door is not locked, that means two things. The first is that he's unprotected from the wolves, presuming the rest are also unlocked. The second being that he could escape.

If Sirius has been in love with him for a better part of the decade… well that’s his own business and nobody else’s. He’s even kept it from James. The only thing he’s ever successfully kept hidden, so James didn’t know what it meant when he said “I’m moving in with Lily” and “it’ll just be the two of you” and “take care of him, yeah?”
