I noticed there weren’t any fanfics about our beloved skaters at school, so I decided to write one myself.

‘Do you feel that? It’s the pull of the sea’
Zoro blinked a few times at that, caught off guard. He tried closing his eyes and holding his breath, but only the breeze answered, carrying droplets of sea water that landed on his cheeks.
‘I don’t feel anything’ he said. He wilted a little at the thought of letting her down, but she only laughed softly.
‘That’s okay love’ she said as she gently squeezed his shoulders ‘You’ll hear the seas calling one day’

The young marine is tall. Maybe an inch or so taller than himself, although it’s hard to tell when Zoro’s tied just low enough for his ankles to drag in the dirt. Lanky build, painstakingly pressed uniform topped with that stupid billed cap. Neatly combed blond hair covering the left side of his face. The eyebrow Zoro can see curls like a nautilus shell at the outer edge.
“Afternoon," he says blandly. “I’m here to take your order.” Zoro only just refrains from scoffing.
“For what?” he asks.
“Your last meal.”

On the Olympic ice, it only takes a few seconds for a performance to become a failure in the eyes of the whole world. People see the fall, the mistake, the points on the board. They don't see the silent weeks before, the injured body, the head full of expectations, the fatigue that hides behind the smile, or that special kind of fear when you know that people will judge you by one moment, not by the journey to it.
The Lost Crown is a story inspired by the pressure on top athletes. About falls that don't have to be just a mistake in proper technique. About athletes who, for a moment, are reduced to just one performance. And about how even in a place where everyone is fighting for medals, there can be a silent understanding between skaters that isn't visible on the scoreboard.
