Summary
The bouquet is… modest. Which is to say: clumsy. A little wild, like it was plucked by someone who didn’t know what would match but wanted it all to mean something anyway. A riot of silvers and whites and blue-touched greens, the colors of the sea when it’s thinking of the sky. Some of the stems are uneven. The string binding them is just that—string, frayed and rough. There’s no ribbon. No note.
But the moment Neuvillette touches them, his throat tightens like the air is suddenly full of brine.
He doesn’t take them at first. He just stares. Then he looks up, as if expecting an explanation, as if he’s waiting for the punchline. But Wriothesley doesn’t give him one. He doesn’t give him anything but that half-shrug of a smile that Neuvillette is starting to learn means more than it lets on.
“For your office,” Wriothesley adds, like he’s offering a paperweight. Like it’s nothing. Like he didn’t just reach inside Neuvillette’s chest and place something warm and fragile on the altar of his ribs.
Or, Wriothesley keeps showing up with flowers and Neuvillette keeps keeping them.

The Tide lies on a shoal of pebbles, worn smooth by wild storms, blue silks clinging to his form. He is unused to this humanness they don, preferring the sleek build of the beast he is known for; a dragon, pale as ivory, leaping over foam capped waves.
“After gazing upon my doings on land, you wish to savour the wind and water, when I wait for you, Wriothesley?” Neuvillette speaks His name with the slightest of facetiousness, mirth shimmering in violet eyes. “We have but mere hours before the Assembly. The other Gods are not as patient as I am.”
- The Moon and the Tides are lovers, destined to act in favour of the other's motions. Once every half millennia, they are able to descend from their Heavenly seats and walk the lands as mortals do, to attend the Assembly of the Gods. The world changes, and with it, the Ether stirs.

“And because,” Neuvillette added, slower now, as though choosing each syllable from a shelf of fragile things, “I like how it feels… to be walking toward something.”
A pause.
The kind of pause that rewrites what came before.
Wriothesley stared at him.
And then—too fast for thinking, too gentle for regret—he leaned a little closer. Not enough to touch. But enough to threaten it.
“Careful,” he murmured. “You’re starting to sound like a romantic.”
Neuvillette tilted his head. His eyes were impossibly clear. As if there were no room in him for shame. As if he had calculated this moment as thoroughly as he weighed a ruling.
“I said nothing untrue.”
