This machine’s voice is different than V1’s. It is a bit deeper and more humanlike than the programmed pitches of the other robot. His chassis is also red instead of blue, albeit his left arm is green.
“I was expecting someone else,” the robot replies. He fiddles with some wires that connect the green arm to the rest of his chassis.
“So was I,” Gabriel says.

In an effort to stop the physical toll housing a shard of Ultima has caused Joshua, he instead absorbs it, merging it with himself. And while this is a success for the most part, it changes Joshua's once even temperament. Now more ruthless than before, he has retaken Rosalith and seated himself as Archduke once again, lording over those in Rosaria once more... but their ruler is far removed from the benevolence of Elwin Rosfield. Rumors of the unholy magic this new Phoenix is capable of spread far and wide, driving a wedge between himself and the Hideaway, despite their shared ambitions of stopping Ultima, saving the world, and saving Clive.
Prone to unhinged "fits", Clive receives word that his younger brother is heading into one and he quickly departs from the Hideaway to assist...

In this canon-divergent story, Cid and Otto are starting up the Cursebreakers, but have only had minimal success with which of their runaway Bearers are actually capable of fighting. Thinking it best to purchase one from the black market instead, they head to Oriflamme, where Cid spots a young fire-aspected Branded that should serve his purposes well. Especially once he's able to reason out just who said Branded is: the young Lord Clive Rosfield.
Cid knows he has to do a delicate dance with "his" new "property" that he's purchased, and also knows that they have a long road of deprogramming and un-brainwashing ahead of them. Can Cid help Clive remember his independence? And can he do so without breaking the young man's fragile sanity? Will Clive be able to help Cid realize his dream of Cursebreakers, and aiding in the operations at the Hideaway, including the eventual liberation of Bearers?
