Summary
What they don’t tell you about dying is that it hurts like hell.
Grian laid on the ground, soft wet grass tickling his skin. He couldn’t force his eyes open, so they stayed closed, forehead knitted in pain. Every part of his body screamed. His arms laid by his sides, heavy enough to fall off, knuckles throbbing with bruises. His chest ached every time he tried to take a ragged breath. A migraine threatened to split his head in half, making all of his thoughts soupy and fuzzy and hard to focus on.
Is this how the others felt, each person who had died by Grian’s own hands? His heart hurt at the thought of his comrades and enemies alone, wallowing in pain. Maybe it was just him. Maybe it was his punishment for destroying everything he had ever loved. Cursed to lay conscious for eternity, waiting for a release that would never come.
He deserved that. After everything he had done, the blood he had spilled, maybe this was merciful. The best someone like him deserved.
OR;
After winning Third Life, Grian wakes up in an uninhibited world, still reeling from the trauma he just went through. The other winners from their own series start appearing to join him, and they're left wondering why.

We always knew what the King was thinking.
From the first moment our terracotta skin was imbued with the magic of Mezalea, we felt our ruler's presence without stop. Though the kings and queens that ruled would pass, their legacy survived in us, the last tenant of their touch. Their presence was featherlight on us yet bore down without pause. It was soft and kind, a guiding voice that told us what to do.
Whatever instruction we were given, we performed without hesitance or complaint. We didn’t have a will of our own, so completing tasks was our primary function. In that cess of our minds, the King's voice would rumble through us, giving us instruction. Whatever he said we would do, for his will was the most important thing in the world to us.
Serving our King was our sole purpose, and we would never stray from that path.
Godhood is not granted without sacrifice. The clones care as best they can.

This was a design flaw quickly corrected by the Witches, but the fact of the matter was, the Fount did not have such a design flaw. The Fount did not have design flaws like crumbly joints, easy burning, the ability to stop floating when he wanted to fall.
