Harry has never particularly worried about her future. The Dursleys were horrible, it was true, and her parents were dead, but since she was very small she had understood that there were two people in the world who she would meet, and then they would be her family.
The words killed in action make her think that maybe there aren’t people waiting for her. Her stomach flips when Agent Coulson says it. He explains that they had died within a week of one another, which is sad almost beyond words.
Even if they are, somehow, alive, both would be well into their eighties. Even if she finds them, very, very soon, she will spend most of her life alone. It makes her - angry, almost, and inexplicably. As if Steven Grant Rogers and James Buchanan Barnes have broken a promise, as if they meant to die and leave her all alone.
Harry is twenty-one years old when Steve Rogers is pulled from the ice.
Steve might say that it is their choices that define who they are. Harry knows, she knows what her choices say about her. She knows exactly who she is and what she has done.

Summary

With active threats Ba'al has against their home, Anubis and his growing fleet, SG-1 has Earth's priority in mind. Yet Daniel can't help but feel something calling him back to her.

She'd known him for most of her life and it would seem odd to her if she didn't have him present in her life. She had been seven years old when he first came into her life and he never left.
It's just that she didn't recognise his shadow anymore. The wide span of his broad shoulders and his smooth gait were unfamiliar to her. His confident footsteps didn't register as his in her mind.
Erskine had made him into something she'd never would've considered in the first place. The kind-hearted asthmatic who'd kissed her at the altar was no more.
It was strange to combine the Steve she knew in her heart to the Steve standing in front of her, silver star on his chest and brown helmet clasped under his chin. To see the war-hardened solder he had become when she could still remember the man who eventually became her husband in the sharp lines of his angular cheekbones.
She'd come to the conclusion that she'd have to relearn every aspect of him, to throw out everything she'd known about him and replace it.
All she needed now was time.
But, like most in this godforsaken war, not even she was granted such a luxury.

Kara is at the end of her nursing shift when a violent man is brought in with an arrow wound. When he spits blood on her, Kara is transported elsewhere. Soon she's doing emergency wound care on book characters and trying not to lose it. She can't watch people suffer even if it isn't real, but Aragorn is very suspicious of a woman who tells no clear story and smells like an orc.
“Stranger things have happened than you or I have years to tell of it," Gandalf said. "Why does she unsettle you? Surely you do not feel threatened. I am tolerably certain you could defeat her if it came to violence.”
Aragorn scoffed at his gentle humor. “I’m glad to amuse you. There are more dangers than warriors and swords. Need I tell a wizard that?"
“I can assure you she is not evil and has not a whisper of magic.”
“Yet a beautiful woman appears directly in our path, leagues from civilization, and immediately gains the hobbits’ trust. No wizardry, you say?”
Kara was not *unhappy* at being called a beautiful woman (although his standards for human women, as opposed to elves, were probably low), but she was unhappy to be stuck eavesdropping. She’d seen this scene too many times in movies. They would definitely see her.- Language:
