They had spent their entire childhood after getting adopted in the same Monster-only town, with Noelle as their only friend their own age(sure, they were friendly with the other kids their age, that's what happens when you go to the same school since kindergarten, but Noelle is the only person they've ever considered a friend), and the only other people they could consider friends being their own and Noelle's older siblings.
But they did NOT expect to suddenly be thrust into a world of bigotry, chaos, a curriculum that actually challenges them, and, more than all of that...
Meeting people who they connect with not because their parents were friends, but because they truly connect to each other on a deeper level.
And while they drift away from Noelle and finally start to make friends on their own...
They also find themself crushing on a certain bluebird Noelle becomes study buddies with.

Kris' eyes peeled opened 3 months after the world was supposed to end. The bright sun streamed into the room, filling it with the warm promise of a new day as the birds sang their familiar song, content with heralding in the new day with the one they knew by heart. All this quiet beauty while the world around them was still waking up from its slumber.
It was peaceful, for a moment they almost thought it was a dream. That it was a cruel trick of their brain before thrusting them back into a reality where they had no control. So they waited, basking in the perfection before it was ripped away.
But that moment never came.
No strings were ever pulled to make them someone else's vessel again, their body and SOUL was finally their own. No one elses. No player, no Angel, no Mystery Man, no one's. Only theirs and theirs alone.
And they weren't alone anymore.
Or:Kris wakes up and decides to play the piano before everyone wakes up.

Kris followed Susie out of the classroom, watching as she toyed around with her greataxe in the hallway. It was beautiful to see, the glowing, fiery edge of the weapon reminding them of being carried when they were younger, Noelle laughing alongside them. Susie turned around, and stopped, realizing they had followed her. Kris’s eyes went from her axe, to the large metal sign declaring ‘NO WEAPONS IN SCHOOL,’ and back to Susie.
“So, finally Susie’s time to get thrown in the Cloud Sea, huh nerd?” She growled.
Kris rolled their eyes, confident that Susie wouldn't be able to see it, but sharply remembered their bond, as the tattered empathy link flashed first with their annoyance, and then brightly with Susie's rage. Her eyes narrowed to thin slits.
“The Architect just had to stick His best Blade with a Driver too weak to use her!”
Deltarune characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 world, featuring poly fun gang (once they work all their issues out), a lot of discussion about personhood, and gay people kissing!!!
