Summary
Years ago, a clown wanted a family. So first he found himself a girlfriend, tortured her into insanity, and thought that was enough. Then she begged him for a child, so he snatched one off the streets and shocked him until he was a good little boy who always smiled and followed orders.
Then the woman felt guilty, so she disappeared into the night with the child, abandoning the clown behind her. Unfortunately the boy didn't stay with her either, running away and leaving both his Mama and Papa behind. He let himself heal, let himself recover from what was done to him. Even turned himself into a cuckoo and curled up in a Robin's nest.
So what happens when the clown finally finds his son again?

At last, after what feels like a hundred years of that inscrutable stare, Dick nods. "Yeah," he says. "You know, I think you're right. I think B just made the wrong call on this one."
"That's what I've been saying," crows Jason, triumphant. "But nobody fucking listens to me! You can't swap in some half-ass replacement and expect results."
Tim's still down in the icy water below that thin, crumpled layer of safety. The cold has numbed his limbs, numbed his lungs, left him struggling to breathe. He's not drowning yet, but he feels like he's forgotten how to swim. Some small, logical part of his brain knows, objectively, that this has to be another hallucination. They aren't really here.
The rest of him is caught up in how real it all feels.
