A ball of energy started to grow and take shape in front of Joel’s chest before floating down to the floor. As it grew it was definitely bigger than a dove or a cat. It was three feet tall by the time it was done, thin too. Joel was hoping for an eagle or maybe a swan, something menacing or regal.
Instead, the creature that appeared before them was a goose.
“You’ve got to be blooming kidding me,” Joel hissed, waving his hands in the direction of the goose, “Grian! What is this?”
“Pretty sure that’s a goose,” Scar helpfully supplied.

It was a normal mission. Dismantling fighting rings was routine for M'staeng at this point. What was not normal was getting himself captured on one of those missions, but that was fine. H'kye killing him when she inevitably rescued him scared him more than anything the Homn'cli could do to him. It wouldn't be too bad.
Of course, he didn't expect for the Homn'cli to have captured a fucking human, much less make them his cellmate. Sharing a cage with a species considered death incarnate wasn't how M'staeng saw his imprisonment going.

And so the saviors separate and go their own ways. Each burdened by all that they left unsaid and an uneasy sense of regret.But the Universe still has a wish to fulfill and this ending does not suffice. The saviors will find that splitting up is not as easy as they expect.
In fact it might be impossible.

Isabeau once joked that if he ever needed to get away with murder, he would make sure to ask Odile for help.
She didn’t mind the joke, in fact she tried to play into it. She was more ruthless than the others, scarier, and it was for the best to keep that comparison humorous. To limit her terrifying side to chilly glares and threats of spicy food. It stopped the others from dwelling on it long enough to ask questions, which in turn helped her keep certain things buried in the past.
Then Siffrin knocked on her door in the middle of the night and asked her for just such assistance. Suddenly it wasn’t a joke anymore.
