Summary
Ben Naasade did not care that the Rebel Alliance had finally freed the galaxy from the Empire's clutches nearly a decade since it began.
He definitely did not care when they revealed that not all the Jedi were dead, merely hiding and helping from the shadows.
And he most certainly did not want to help them fund their brand new Republic.
It wasn't pettiness, it was practicality. After all, he didn't think any of the remaining Jedi council would be terribly impressed with the criminal empire he's amassed.
Or the whole not being dead thing.

OR
Obi-Wan Kenobi was only a padawan when Order 66 happened. Alone and at his breaking point, he accidentally starts his own criminal empire.

Then the Sith revealed themselves after a thousand years of plotting from the shadows and it became clear just how well they had the stage set for their bid for galactic domination. Darth Sidious made a mistake though. Obi-Wan had been trained by the Grand Master of the Jedi Order and was a Dark Lord of the Sith, but more than that he was a Mandalorian. And the one thing you do not do, was mess with a Mandalorian’s family.
