Merlin just scurried out of the barren house as it went up in flames from the fire of a Zippleback. He weaved through the action and aimed for the part-blacksmith-part-physician shop where he apprenticed, people called out to him. “What are you doing outside?” “Get back to safety!” “Move kid!” In his hurry he bumped into Uther. Uther was the Chief of Camelot, he was so strong, he was rumored to have killed 5 dragons before his 10th birthday. Did Merlin believe it? Yes. He paled as Uther turned to see exactly what bumped into him with a glare, but Uther’s expression morphed into one of half exasperation and half annoyance when he noticed who it was. (Shockingly) He went back to ignoring Merlin.

Merlin manages to wrangle a visit back to Ealdor out of Arthur by telling Arthur that he will be unable to run his kingdom on his own. After Merlin leaves on his vacation, Camelot slowly but surely falls apart to Arthur’s horror and chagrin and he realizes just how much he has come to rely on Merlin’s help.

Summary: Merlin’s Clan is a very traditional one. That’s why Arthur hadn’t seen his chosen Omega but for a couple of times, always in extremely controlled situations, and Merlin had crossed only a few shy words with him. Now that Merlin is in heat, they are going to tie the knot (pun intended), and Arthur is not sure what to expect of this night. Despite having been raised with certain customs, Arthur had never seen a ritual like this.
