Summary
“She was going to kiss me,” Wei Ying says, muffled, into his hands.
Lan Zhan makes sure he keeps his breaths even. “Hm,” he says. Wei Ying looks up at him, wild: a little tipsy, perhaps. Confused, in a panic. His mouth is red like he’s been kissed—he hasn’t. He’s a lip biter, has a habit of picking at his dry lips, the winter sores at the corner of his mouth. It drives Lan Zhan to madness. He dreams of Wei Ying’s puffy mouth, often, sometimes with the real Wei Ying in a sleeping bag on the floor next to his bed. On mornings like those he wakes up in a cloud of embarrassment—hobbling to the bathroom at dawn, running a loud shower to hide the sounds. Wei Ying sleeps on.
“How do I—” Wei Ying starts, stops. He then lets out a single laugh, another. He says: “Oh my god. How do I kiss? Lan Zhan, how do I kiss?”

Jingyan was still trying to find a solution when Mei Changsu stumbled behind him - Jingyan whirled around and barely managed to arrest his fall. Up close, Mei Changsu's eyes were glassy, slightly unfocused, and he felt more like an ice statue than a person in Jingyan's arms. It took him several long moments to catch his breath and scramble up, and it was obvious to Jingyan that he wasn't spewing apologies only because he was barely staving off a bad coughing fit.
"Enough," Jingyan said, coming to the decision. He turned his back to Mei Changsu and squatted down. "Get on my back, please, Sir Su."

The plan comes apart almost as soon as the three of them enter the prison.
Poe thought they were doing pretty good until that point. They got into the spaceport with their cover identities in place, made it onto the ship that delivers supplies and new prisoners to Kedai Station in the far Outer Rim, survived the trip with a bunch of bad-tempered and legitimate criminals with nothing more than some bruises and a headache, and got shoved through intake until they were finally spat out as official residents.
The whole process had felt like being digested, but they had a mission to accomplish, so they tried to blend in and not get involved in any trouble. Poe assured Finn and Rey over and over that they’d be smuggled out on the same ship that brought them in, job done and back to base.
So of course things start to go wrong immediately.
