He blinked, though his eyelids were dry and they stung like lemon in a papercut. His pupils contracted and expanded in attempts to find the proper amount of dilation, and once they had, he managed to focus on the man who was standing in front of him, holding open a ruby red notebook with a black star in the center. He was wearing what looked like military clothing, khaki pants and shirt, but instead of being camo, they were black and had a red squid adorning the front, with a skull for a head.
Right. Hydra. Nazis. Bad people. Very bad people. They had him, and he couldn't break free, and he just had to work on not succumbing to whatever they were trying to do. Bucky would find him. He'd come and bring him home.
(or, what if Steve managed to save Bucky from falling, but as sacrifice, fell in his place?)

Tonight, because of anxiety, he found himself on the roof of his apartment building at nearly three in the morning, wishing for a beer or a cigarette or something to curb the way his brain was bitching.
No one would ever know the extent of what Slade had taught him to do, as long as he could just keep from saying anything or falling into the trained habits.
And there it was.
There was the crux of it.
The center of the thoughts plaguing him tonight―working for Slade, and how horrible a person he’d been when he was under his employ.

Working for Slade left Dick with a lot of scars, mental and physical.
Allowing himself to be taken 'captive' and thrown to the mercy of the man, finding himself working for him again, is opening nearly all of them back up.
And he isn't sure he's strong enough to stitch them up this time.
He isn't even sure he wants to.

My friend forced me to read this. I will say as someone who has a hard time understanding emotions this fanfic is quite great. I could feel them and it feels weird/amazing?. As i've phrased I can't get emotions and this fanfic is truly amazing. Maybe I would cry if I could understand them but it's hard to so this fanfic is quiet nice.
