She looked good; crisper, more put together than he’d ever seen her. Her grimy vault suit had been replaced by a black bodysuit and a trim, gray jacket. Her hair was the same shoulder-grazing length, but perfectly coiffed and missing its signature adornment of dried blood. She even seemed to be wearing a hint of makeup, a luxury not normally permitted aboveground.

Summary
Following the crashing of the Prydwen and the leveling of the Institute, Penelope Howard returned to Sanctuary to find that Paladin Danse had left. Despite the romantic relationship between the two of them having nearly reached what had felt like its highest point, the destruction of the Brotherhood of Steel proved to be too much of a strain on their relationship for it to continue. That had been July 11th, 2288, and nearly four months later she catches a glimpse of the missing Paladin in Diamond City.
Occurs post-game following the Railroad ending.

Summary
The Sole Survivor is bad at trusting people. Paladin Danse is bad at trusting himself. She needs to find her missing son and he needs to find a way to stop blaming himself for all the deaths around him. In order to do that, both must learn to trust again and to ask for help. But first, they really need to learn how to stop pissing each other off during missions.
This story follows mostly the Brotherhood of Steel storyline, but with adjustments to both the quests and the protagonist's pre-war background. I like to believe that what we see and hear in the game are only fractions of what is happening, so I'm taking creative liberties when filling out the gaps and fleshing out the story. If you wanted to see an identical copy of what happened in the game, you would probably be playing that anyway.

Addison Howard has been many things in her lifetime: homemaker, artist, lawyer, mother. Adding pistol packing Vault Dweller to that list was never a part of the plan. Though, neither was falling for a man who spends most of his time occupying a massive suit of metal armor. If Addison can learn to love again, then surely she can learn to survive in the Wasteland. Once she actually learns how to aim her damn pistol.
