Of course, it was possible that his own regular therapy was doing him some good. Ziyal was still certain that Elim was never - and would never be - completely honest with Counselor Belaris, but maybe she was getting through to him anyway. Plus, things seemed to be going very well for him with Bashir right now. Specifically, Bashir was doing better generally. He was much more relaxed and not nearly as broody and cryptic as he had been before Ziyal had gone to Shikina. Elim said that he’d started taking regular pain medication for his leg while she was gone.
Though she hadn’t really followed how that development was supposedly related to Chief O’Brien’s cat.
“Look, Elim,” she said gently, “I’m sure it will be fine. There are going to be lots of Starfleet doctors there, and Starfleet can’t afford to have anything happen to such important medical personnel while there’s a war going on. Security will certainly be very strict.”
Elim sighed. “That’s what worries me…”

It was the sort of thing that would be infuriating if Tigan didn’t have such a long temper. Instead, she acknowledged that this was probably not something that Bashir could really help, and he wasn’t dismissing her out of egotistical aloofness or as a way to remind her that she was only his assistant - rather, it was more like he was simply too focused on the research to really consciously register anything Tigan said that his brain categorized as “not relevant”.
That wasn’t to say that Bashir didn’t have narcissistic traits, of course. She’d certainly noticed a few. But it just seemed as though there was a somewhat more innocent explanation for the fact that the only way Tigan could make suggestions or give constructive criticism was if she basically ambushed the man with them.

"I certainly aspire to, madame," Elim replied, glancing at Ziyal as if she could rescue him from this conversation.
Nisha turned to her as well. "Have you made any plans for his stay yet? I suggest you make the trip to the Temple of Iponu."
"Isn't that the place they brought the Orbs that were returned by the Cardassians last year?" Despite it only having been a year, Ziyal felt it had been ages ago when she had heard the news from Nerys. The war seemed like it had been going on forever.

“Julian, stop before you jinx something.” Miles paused at the airlock door and turned to look at Bashir. “Seriously,” he said, “it’ll only be a week. You’ll be fine.”

“‘Course I will. I’ll tell Keiko and the kids you said hi. Er, and, don’t let Garak do anything weird to Chester. I figure Cardassians aren’t very familiar with cats…”

“We won’t make it to the table,” Bashir agreed, “but we might get our foot in the door.”
“With Damar.” Elim stared at them both incredulously. “Just why exactly do you even expect to be able to get a foot in his door, then?”
Ziyal took a deep breath. “Because,” she said, “he’s probably mentioned in my father’s will, too.”
