Once a week, Scott would show up in Tumble Town and ask Jimmy to pose for him. ‘For reference’ he said. Jimmy had grumbled about it in the beginning, staying in the same pose for fifteen minutes at a time, but by now he was used to it. At the end of every session, Scott would show him all his sketches, the pencil lines sharp and drawn with intent. They captured every wrinkle of his clothes, every curve of his arms and small features of his expressions.

"Why did you slaughter them all?” His interest was piqued— usually, he couldn't care less about other vampires, but maybe those centuries asleep had changed him.
Owen’s eyes darkened, grief painting his features. “Revenge, no one deserved to live after what they did. After what they did to him!” His eyes turned misty instead. “He was the only one who ever cared, and they set him ablaze…”
Scott sucked in a breath; clearly, he was now in over his head. He probably shouldn’t have asked Owen that question, but—what was that dumb phrase humans always said? Curiously killed the cat, was it?
Whatever, he had more pressing concerns; for example, this young vampire was doing strange things to his heart, he almost felt bad for Owen, but surely not? Scott didn’t care; he was just talking with Owen because he was bored and needed entertainment, not because he cared.
He didn’t care.

Suddenly, a voice cried out, the cadence achingly familiar. “Owen, Scott, Pyro!? ARE YOU GUYS THERE!?” That was Shelby’s voice, but she wasn’t the normal, cheery girl he knew; she was scared. “PLEASE, I NEED HELP!” She screamed, her figure finally appearing through the mist.
Something inside Owen shifted—one second, he was alerted to her presence with a pounding heart, and the next he was by her side, instinctively hiding her body behind his, an arm protectively held up in front of her.

Summary
As much as Scott hated it, he knew there was only one thing to be done.
"Pyro," he called, forcing a grave expression onto his face. Hopefully Pyro wouldn't argue with him. They were normally good, happy to accept Scott's word as their Sire regardless of whether or not they understood what he was saying or why their instincts were screaming for certain things.
"Yes Sire?" They were so young. So innocent. They didn't know what they had just done. Curse their eternal enthusiasm.
"I'm going to need you to stay calm, and do as I say, okay? I'm going to need to drain you." It was a fight to stop his voice from shaking, but a fight he had to win. If he seemed worried, then his fledgling would panic, and that would not do at all.

Pyro got the final hit on Shelby, making him their vampire Sire. Unfortunately for him, being a sire is a heavy burden, and not one a fledgling as young as himself can handle. Even more unfortunately, the only way to break the bond is absolutely terrifying.
