Summary
With Priestess Morgause and the powerful warlock Emrys at his side, King Cenred is set on conquering all of Albion. King Arthur is determined to keep Camelot safe from Essetir's power-hungry ruler. After sending Gwaine to infiltrate and investigate the enemy, Arthur manages to strike Cenred an unexpected blow by capturing Emrys, considered a war criminal of the worst kind. Summary
It had been a year or so now, since the magic ban had been reversed, months since Merlin became Court Sorcerer. And a few more weeks since Merlin's injury.
Arthur had finally given Merlin the Court-Sorcerer chambers he was promised, that just happened to be down the hall from the kings own .
Arthur would insist this was not on purpose, but everyone had seen them around the castle, holding and kissing each others hands, teasing each other as usual but with the addition of grinning at each other.
There had been a shift in their relationship, and it meant they were more protective of each other than usual. If it wasn't terrifying, it would probably be sweet.
But of course this is Camelot, not everything can stay perfect for too long. Destiny would never allow it.

Summary
There were twigs breaking underfoot and sounds of shouting all around but it was so unclear how close anyone actually was to them. In the end though, it didn’t matter how close the knights were. Arrows can hit their target from a great distance when released from a crossbow.
Merlin felt his breath leave his lungs in an instant as something lodged itself in his side. He felt his stomach flip as his knees went out from under him, his back hitting the forest floor with a thud. He felt the leaves under his fingers as he scratched at the mud, trying to reach something, anything that could help.
Until finally, he felt nothing.

A path was cleared as he approached until only a familiar mop of blond curls was left in his way. Leon turned to look at him from where he was crouched on the ground, eyes widening as he failed to find the right words. “Sire…”
And then Arthur saw why. And his blood ran cold.-

Merlin groaned from his uncomfortable kneeling position and Arthur could see the tiny beads of sweat already dotted across his forehead. “How bad is it?” He murmured, trying again to push himself upright at an awkward angle to take a look.
“Merlin, my friend.” Gwaine said with a grimace of sympathy. “This is going to hurt.”
And Arthur took that as his cue. Giving Merlin no time to protest, he grabbed the arrow and pulled free both the weapon and a scream.-
Set in s03e12. Whilst trying to save the Cup of Life from falling into the hands of Cenred’s men, Merlin is hit with the poisoned arrow.

“I’m no liar,” the witch says. “I said to kiss the one your heart most desires. It appears that person is not the queen.”
Instantly, the color drains from Arthur’s face. He stumbles backwards, gripping the hilt of his sword until his knuckles turn white.
“Kiss the one your heart most desires,” the witch sings, “and your friends will be set free.”

To save his friends’ lives, Arthur must confess feelings that were never meant to see the light. But it is Merlin who pays the price.
