Summary
The story of how The Investigator got to where he is.
Young Nikolai LeVanne is 29 and he just wants to do well. He is given the opportunity to improve through an experimental process. This one step leads him through a journey exposing the deep flaws of the civilian government he has promised to serve. Still, he is hopeful. It has to be worth the suffering. It must be worth the suffering.
Provides the political and social context that plays out in "Piper At the Gates of Dawn."
(Note: This is a revised version of "Portrait" which I had published a while ago and wanted to redo. I decided it needed its own thing or else none of the comments on the old one would make sense. Possibly getting rid of that old version once this one has been totally updated)

SECOND STOP: OUTER RIM OF THE KLINGON EMPIRE
Doh'Val is returning to Klingon space after his disgrace on Homeworld, something he thought wouldn't happen again for many years. Attempting to clear Vudic's name has led the Investigator to Siff, the very edge of the Empire and an unspoken backdoor to Romulus and UFP space. The musicians are greeted as interesting curiosities, and Doh'Val's humiliation becomes intriguing rather than reason for disgrace. They are sought after as artists to share their work with the Governor's court.
However, invisible perils surround them. The siren song of high society threatens to lure Doh'Val away from his friends; Vudic's dalliance with a fellow Vulcan drives him further. A old flame from his past asks him to choose patriotism over friendship. What will he choose? And who is the mysterious impostor destroying their good name?

FIRST STOP: FERENGINAR
It is the first time Krax has been back since leaving, before Female Emancipation. Before he left, he was certain he was alone. So, it is a shock to come back home and find a whole community of people just like him, all thriving under the new reforms. But the old parts of Ferenginar never went away. Liquidators are still looking for him, and being on Homeworld only makes it easier for them to find him.
But freed of all other obligations, the four musicians devise a plan. What's to stop them from performing for these newly emancipated people who are now free to create their own nightclubs? And while they're at it, they should finally give themselves a proper group name....

Summary
An update and serializing of the original work "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" since I felt it worked better as a collection of shorter works.
Taking place ten years after the end of the Dominion War, four musicians from wildly different backgrounds found each other through their shared love of art and a desire to grow beyond their own cultures. Unfortunately, they never expected to become entangled in an interplanetary game of espionage, nor did they expect to be each other's ruin.
What to expect! Meditations on art, aesthetic theory, sexy times, angst, complicated gender feelings, and me trying to fill in a ton of gaps that never get filled by any licensed Star Trek works!

The Stone Gryphon by rthstewart, Syrena_of_the_lake
Fandom Chronicles of Narnia (Movies), Chronicles of Narnia - All Media Types, Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, The Rat Patrol

Summary
The Stone Gryphon is a sprawling Spare Oom story of war, espionage, immoral acts done in service of moral ends, natural history, dinosaurs, Alice in Wonderland, cunning corvids, tequila, D-Day, theology, spirituality, love and sex. If the Dawn Treader can be on the wall of a spare bedroom in Impington, Narnia can be found in other places, too. The Friends of Narnia just have to learn where to look. And upon returning from Narnia, the Pevensies probably didn't just sit around waiting to die in a fiery train wreck.
"No, no! The adventures first," said the Gryphon in an impatient tone: "explanations take such a dreadful time."
L. Carroll, The Adventures of Alice In Wonderland"Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible."
Francis of Assisi"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Summary
We are driven by forces we cannot control to return home and take a wife. Or die. — Spock (“Amok Time”)
Every seven years, all Vulcans are compelled to return to their native planet to engage in the ancient ritual of pon farr or die trying. Among fans, it is hotly contested whether Vulcans actually only mate once every seven years. However, from a biological perspective, it’s far more remarkable that a mating system where anyone who fails to mate dies could ever evolve, but perhaps it is not impossible given the unique constraints of Vulcan society.
An evolutionary perspective on the Vulcan mating system.

This is a paper I wrote for a philosophy of mind class last semester. The class sucked ass but I'm reasonably proud of this paper, which earned me an A- cause it was late lol. I'm not that well-versed in this area of philosophy, but discussion is welcome! If you love Data/StarTrek/Philosophy/reading random people's academic writing, then this paper is the paper for you!

A collection of my meta essays, mostly from my Tumblr (currently cardassiangoodreads), about Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, just to have them all in one place. These are written in a very "Tumblr" posting style, and not how I normally write my fiction-analysis essays, so keep that in mind. Marked as "complete" but additional parts may be added in the future.

Not fanfiction— This is an essay I wrote for a monster-themed English class that talked a lot about the definitions of humanity and monsters, so I decided to write my paper on Star Trek since that's already all I think about. Focuses mostly on Spock, Data, and Bashir.
