Summary
Alternatively titled "If Just One of You Fuckers Actually Communicated the Mindscape Wouldn't Be On Fire and God Wouldn't Have Yeeted Himself to the Next Dimension."
A story about the consequences of dividing yourself and calling that moral, and the pain that comes from spending so long living inauthentically, told through the epics of parts of Character!Thomas' personality. In which everyone has donated their brain cells, everyone has angst, and everyone has made some pretty stupid decisions.
None of the current installments have it, but this series will deal heavily in child sexual abuse, and against my will selfcest sprouted. There will be an alternative version available eventually without those taboo subjects, but it's lower priority and, admittedly, inferior in quality to the more triggering version.

The core sides don’t know that there are actual dangerous sides he needs to protect Thomas from. But there’s another side he needs to protect too. He used to be able to count on help from Janus, who did the job without even knowing it back when he still lived with them. But now Virgil and Remus are alone, and they have to look out for each other, which means the last thing that Virgil should do is leave his brother by himself.

It was the next day when he felt the familiar itch, and instead of looking for something sharp, he looked at the box. He pulled out a few brushes and a few colors and sat, staring at them.
He stared for five minutes before the itch became unbearable and he sighed, reaching out.
He painted a vine of pink and white flowers curling around his left forearm, and when he was done, the itch was gone.
He started doing it more and more, until he found himself painting on his skin even without the itch that had first motivated him to do so. Remy was elated, and complemented every piece of artwork he could see.
Virgil’s soulmates were confused, at first. He had told himself he wasn’t going to read their reactions, but he couldn’t help himself. He didn’t think he could bring himself to keep doing it if they hated it.
They didn’t.

The sublevel the live specimens are kept on requires security screening conducted by a pair of steely-eyed armed guards and one final ID scan at the door beyond them. There’s a bit of a hiccup with Leon’s badge not reading properly on the scanner, but you were there when it was printed, and you’ve worked at the EPF long enough that when you vouch for him, the guards let it slide.
He really wouldn’t have made it this far if he didn’t belong here, after all.
