Ichigo becoming her lieutenant has unforeseen consequences that include but are not limited to women hiding in the men's washroom, abandoning their post to spy on his training, and interrupting Rukia's lunch to ask if he's single. Rukia, being the genius captain that she is, comes up with the perfect plan to get her division back on track.
Ichigo must pretend to have a girlfriend.
Her one mistake, in retrospect, is not specifying who.

For Link, it marked a time of grim bitterness. He used to love snow. He used to love the holidays. But he didn’t anymore. Now, all those lights and gifts and songs were just a reminder of everything he’d nearly had… and lost.

“The research facility is closed at this hour. And Kite definitely knows better than to hang around here after sunset. Are you new or something?”

Gon accepts a job with Kite for the chance to leave Whale Island for the first time in his life. But Gon's employment at Lake Kukuroo comes with rules - don’t explore the lake alone, and don’t visit the lake at night.
And even though Gon enjoys working alongside Kite, learning about the lake and the strange blue-eyed swan that inhabits it, he is also curious. Gon wants to know why Kite is so strict with his rules. And he needs to know more about Killua Zoldyck, the only person Gon has ever seen on the lake at night and who may be the reason why Kite has rules in the first place.

“Wanna try, Killua?” Gon asks, breathless and grinning despite being tossed to the dirt less than thirty seconds ago.
Killua tears his gaze away from Gon’s bright face to the open field in front of him. A crowd of students are scattered around in an uneven circle, all cheering loudly as a boy and girl take their places on opposite sides of the ring.
“I’d need to know what the hell is even going on before I agree to anything,” Killua says, exasperated, and Gon’s grin only grows. “Why are you all hurling yourselves at each other like that?! You’re lucky you didn’t get your front two teeth knocked out!”
Gon laughs. “Don’t be silly, Killua! It’d be impossible to hit each other; you'd have to be soulmates for that to happen!”
(In a universe where a person cannot physically kiss someone who isn’t their soulmate, a class of idiotic high schoolers spend their free period running towards each other to see who could get the closest before the universe repels them)

Gon has so many questions, and he must find the answers in the limited time he has. Why is Killua’s body always so painful to be in? Why are they switching places?
