Dave Strider wants to protect his soulmate, Karkat Vantas, the guy he's been seeing in his dreams ever since he was a teenager, and Sollux Captor wants to save someone important to him too, someone who’s destined to lead the Third Sufferer’s Rebellion and die brutally executed for it. The two men live and work together on a delivery ship while they investigate the Time Loop Phenomenon in their spare time, going through the notes of Past Captors to make sure this timeline doesn't end doomed with capital D.
If it's up to Sollux to save everyone, then it's up to Dave to save him from himself...

Summary
The chiseled statue towering over you is stark naked but for a sweeping cloak, frozen dramatically mid-billow. One arm is swept to a side, the other hand rested on the pommel of a Caledfwlch mounted deep in its engraved stone pedestal. Ironically, the strange jutting form of your stupid egg sword is the one thing they managed to accurately reproduce. Its eyes are cavernous sockets, bleeding slick liquid upwards over your forehead, and you have a feeling that had the artist put color to their work, those antigravity dribbles wouldn't be red.
Four teenagers find themselves back on Earth after their untimely deaths. It isn't exactly as they remember.

It's been nearly a few months since they both appeared in this new world. They have no idea on what happened but both former sprites are now on a very different Earth with very different but mostly familiar bodies, for two things Hal now has a body of his own somewhat and Davesprite is still part bird.
This new world is very different and strange to both, its set in the future and one important detail that shocked both was that in this world: Dave Strider, little brother to famous twins David 'D' Strider and Dereck 'Bro' Strider and a twin himself to Dirk Strider, died at the age of 12, 4 years ago. Now how does this fare for Davesprite now dubbed 'Qrow Davis' who looks almost exactly like the deceased Strider with him being the alternate version of said deceased Strider?
It was bad enough with monsters and enemies from the game popping up every once and a while, not to mention their unwilling and accidental involvement with the dark underworld. They've done their best avoiding anything that might cause them problems but one single mistake from Qrow has the ex-players and involvements from the game chasing after him. Especially the family of Striders who are convinced that he is their Dave.

The first time you see him is Day 1 of Sburbian Mythology 101.
The lecture starts in two minutes and the flow of students into the hall has slowed to a trickle, which is how you notice out of the corner of your eye a pale human in all red sauntering into the room, wearing a set of douchey shades in perplexing defiance of the torrential rainstorm that's been plaguing the city all week. In fact, you register, he seems to be the only one in the hall to not be drenched or at least somewhat wet, as if he's somehow managed to convince his clothes to ignore the godawful downpour outside.
You're about to turn back away when he stops and seizes up mid-stride, the abrupt tension in the human's posture visible even from a distance. He's looking in your direction, you realize, and though the sunglasses are in the way, you have an unshakable feeling that his eyes are staring straight at you.
