Summary
Following the events of the Sea Dragon incident, Quaritch finds himself on the shit end of the stick with the RDA and one seething General Ardmore. His loyalty is scheduled to be punished -- the moment the paperwork needed to kill something as expensive as him and Wainfleet finally goes through.
Disillusioned and weakened by the cruel and unusual treatment (while still being forced to play security for infrastructure development), he finds himself injured and in the hands of the Omaticaya -- where he is now held prisoner, and given the opportunity to reassess his priorities, in exchange for a further delayed execution.
So -- under the suspicious watch of Spellman, and the rest of the People his predecessor attempted to destroy -- he does.

My favorite Jake fic out there, a really deep and visceral exploration of trauma and dissociation. Incredibly thought out and well-written. Inspiring, but also so intense and emotional that I found myself wanting to reread chapters a few times in order to process, to feel, to experience.
