Every hobbit knows that dwarves are voracious lovers. So Bilbo can only assume that Thorin has just been waiting for the opportune time to thoroughly ravage his burglar, who is by no means inexperienced himself.
This would be news to Thorin, of course, since dwarves don't even feel desire until they fall in love.
This leads to a slight misunderstanding.

“Mm-hmm,” Cecil nods, a rumbling hum giving his acknowledgment. “Sorry. I just wanted to see.”
Carlos’s eyes are sparkling with curious delight when he asks, “What did you see?”
For a beat, Cecil just thinks.
Then, he answers, “Stars.”
“Stars,” Carlos echoes, fascinated, looking towards the sonogram again. “Tell me about them.”
or: cecil and carlos grow their family in more ways than one, carlos pushes the limits of the scientific method, and cecil learns the only way to truly survive in night vale is to love and not be alone.
