Where, after the magic reveal, Merlin and Arthur are in a relationship, but Arthur is repressed as always. He treats Merlin very differently than he had treated Gwen, and Merlin begins to wonder whether or not he's worth being loved in the same way. Whether Arthur even loves him at all.

The spell rolls across the field, flattening the grass with all the howling power of a gale-force wind. As the wave of magic crashes against them, Merlin has no time to gasp out a spell. He only throws up his arms to cover his face, his own sorcery flaring around him in the same defensive instinct — twin reflexes, beyond conscious thought.
OR: On a morning patrol outside the castle, the knights encounter a sorcerer hell-bent on revenge. Merlin can save Arthur, but doesn't realize what it will cost him until it's too late.

“Merlin, you and I both know that water in the tub is stone cold. Surely you weren’t planning on presenting the King of Camelot with an ice bath? Heat it up.”
Merlin looked over at the door in confusion and reached down to picked up the buckets and started to make towards the door. Damn Arthur, now he had to go and haul another several dozen buckets of water up all those stairs, ensuring they actually were hot to begin with.
“Oh, stop running away and looking confused, Merlin. We both know you don’t need buckets.”
Merlin froze mid-step.
“Heat it up. I won’t ask again,” Arthur commanded.

Summary
It was over. Arthur was here. The Lamia was slain. Gwen was alright. The knights would be back to normal. It was over.
Able to relax for the first time in days, he let his knees buckle and his back slide down the wall. He hit the ground, and his vision turned to mist.
Merlin didn't make it out of his encounter with the Lamia unscathed, or so Arthur thinks when he slays the beast and finds Merlin slumped against the wall and bleeding. When he learns the true source of Merlin's injuries he is furious. He does his best to push that anger away though, because being there for Merlin matters far more right now.

Summary
What starts with a bit of over-protectiveness after nearly losing Merlin in the Valley of the Fallen Kings, ends with being hunted through the woods by a sorceress—because of course it does. While the witch claims to have no intention of hurting them, Arthur would like to disagree, seeing that he ends up spilling secrets that cause exactly as much damage as he expected.
At least that's what it looks like, right up until Merlin reveals secrets of his own. What follows is a struggle with both his own convictions and a traitor at court, and something that involves Greek heroes, winter nights, a dragon, and a better outcome than either of them would've dared to hope for.
